We round off a busy Bank Holiday weekend on Monday with a trip to Northwich Victoria.

The Vics are playing their football at Runcorn Linnets’ Apec Taxis Stadium, which is a significant location in West’s history.

It was there that West last lifted a piece of silverware, after a 1-0 victory over Abbey Hey saw us take the 2012/13 NWCFL Division One Trophy thanks to a Lee Makin goal. There have been less celebratory visits to this ground since then though, as West have fallen to 6-0 and 7-0 losses when playing the landlords of Monday’s opponents.

The Vics - otherwise known as the Trickies, the Victorians and the Salt Men - have got the better of West across the seven meetings between the sides to date, with four wins to West’s two. West’s last victory in this fixture was a famous 3-2 away win in the 2022/23 FA Cup Preliminary Round, courtesy of an 87th minute Curtis Miller goal.

We make the journey to Runcorn following a comfortable 4-0 win at Darlaston Town on Saturday thanks to a Joe Berks hat-trick. That win moved West up to 3rd in the table, albeit with two more games played than most other sides. Monday’s hosts will also be buoyed by a strong start to the season. They remain unbeaten in the league and claimed an eye-catching win over Bootle in an FA Cup replay last week. They were tested by Abbey Hulton on Saturday though, and found themselves 2-0 down at half time, as well as being 3-2 down on the 85th minute before going on to win 5-3 to keep their unbeaten record in tact.

We have our own club record to maintain though, as we will look to continue our 100% winning run in away matches that have taken place over the August Bank Holiday weekend.

In terms of getting to Monday’s game, the nearest train station is Runcorn East which is just under a mile away. There is a good sized car park onsite for those driving, but don't forget to pay the toll charge for the Mersey Gateway Bridge if you are travelling that way into Runcorn. The nearby Creamfields festival is also finishing on Sunday and so there may well be more traffic coming away from the area on Monday.

Good morning! Yesterday we won 4-0 away at Darlaston Town.

Joe Berks gave West the lead on 18 minutes, converting from the spot following a foul on Lewis Billingsley.

Berks doubled his goal tally in the 36th minute, dribbling into the box and finishing brilliantly to the keeper’s right.

Lewis Billingsley got in on the act 5 minutes later when he crept in at the far post to tap in an excellent cross from debutant Charlie Wheeler.

West went into the interval 3-0 up and Joe Berks didn’t have to wait long to complete his hattrick, finishing through a crowd of players less than a minute after the restart.

We now look to repeat this performance when we travel to Northwich Victoria tomorrow in a 3pm kick off.

West make the long journey south on Saturday as we visit Darlaston Town.

It follows a frustrating 3-3 draw last weekend at home to Dudley Town, where West let slip a three-goal lead with the final blow being dealt in second-half stoppage time. The result leaves West in 6th place in the Midlands Premier Division, albeit having played more games than most other sides.

Saturday’s opponents sit in 16th with two games fewer than West under their belt. Their most recent outing was a 6-1 loss at Sutton United, although their goal difference is still in fairly good nick after a 5-1 win at bottom-side Tividale prior to that. The Citizens’ only other league result was a 2-0 opening day defeat at home to Stone Old Alleynians, and they have also been knocked out of the FA Cup and FA Vase at the first hurdle by Knowle and Telford Town respectively.

Darlaston FC were originally formed in 1874 and played under this guise until the club folded in June 2013. Following two public meetings that summer, a new committee formed a phoenix club called Darlaston Town (1874) FC and they moved to their current home of the Paycare Stadium the following year. As part of a restructure in the summer of 2023, the club’s Men’s first team took on the name of Darlaston Town, whilst the rest of the club’s teams playing on as Darlaston Town 1874 FC. They played their first season at Step 5 in 2022/23 and they then won promotion to the NPL West at the second time of asking in 2024/25. Their stay in Step 4 lasted just one season though, as they were relegated earlier this year after finishing bottom of the table and 17 points from safety.

The trip to the Black Country will be West’s longest trip so far in the Midlands Premier Division, and coach tickets remain on sale.

We're delighted to announce the appointment of Lewis Reilly as Men's First Team Assistant Manager.

The 27-year-old former professional has been working with the group since the Garforth FA Cup tie and we're pleased to now confirm his position as part of Lee Rick's management team.

His playing career began at Crewe Alexandra's academy and he went on to play for the Alex in the EFL before enjoying prolific spells across non-league, notably with Curzon Ashton, Marine and Workington.

West supporters will remember Lewis twice scoring against West for Glossop in recent seasons, including a spectacular long range effort in our win at Surrey Street last August.

"I'm delighted to be joining West Didsbury & Chorlton. It’s such a big football club with great ambition.", Lewis told us.

"I’ve recently stopped playing and I'm really looking forward to passing my experience onto the group, and taking on the challenge ahead."

Lee added, "Lewis is someone I know extremely well having previously played alongside him. He's been involved in the game at a very good level and brings valuable experience of being part of numerous promotion-winning teams.

His knowledge and understanding of the game will be invaluable as we look to support the players, drive standards and achieve our ambitions this season."

Lewis will lead the team from the dugout for Saturday's trip to Darlaston Town, with Manager Lee Rick unavailable due to a pre-agreed family commitment.

Photos from of Saturday’s 3-3 draw with Dudley Town. West raced into a first half 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Abadaki, Dawson and Leonard but those who thought the game was finished were in for a shock as Dudley Town found their way back into the match and struck a late equaliser.
