Our Vision

West Didsbury & Chorlton are one of Manchester's oldest and leading amateur clubs with a Vision to become a Community Club for the Chorlton and South Manchester area. The First Team and Reserves play in the FA Vase, Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy and North West Counties Football League. The A Team are in the Altrincham and District [Saturday] League and the Veterans teams in the Cheshi

re Veterans Football League on a Sunday. We have links with local junior clubs and are also planning to develop this with women's and girls football on new grass pitches on the former University Playing Fields at Hardy Farm, adjacent to the club. We are a volunteer run, not for profit, members club, open to all. History

The club was formed in West Didsbury as Christ Church A.F.C. in 1908 by a local Sunday School Superintendent. Christ Church joined the Manchester Alliance League, in which they played until 1914.[2] For the 1920–21 season, the club changed its name to West Didsbury A.F.C. and joined the Lancashire and Cheshire League. West played at the top level of this league for many years, finishing runners-up four times and winning the Rhodes cup in 1932. The club was relegated in 1951–52 but were promoted back the following year. In 1959–60, West were again relegated, but this time took six years to regain a place in Division One.[2] This was short-lived, however, as West were relegated again in 1968–69. Despite this, the club won the Rhodes cup for the second time in 1969–70. After again achieving promotion to Division One in 1970–71, two relegations in three years saw West playing in the Lancashire and Cheshire League Division Three, in which they stayed until the late 1980s.[2] In the 1987–88 and 1988–89 season the club achieved back to back promotions as champions. In 2003, the club changed its name to West Didsbury & Chorlton, to reflect its new location after an earlier ground move. In 2006, they entered the Manchester League Division One, won two Murray Shields in three seasons, and were crowned champions in 2010–11, gaining promotion to the Premier Division.[2] In the 2011–12 season, the club played in the FA Vase for the first time, and were knocked out in the Second Qualifying Round by Ashville F.C.[3] For the 2012–13 season the club had its application to enter the North West Counties Football League Division One accepted.[4] This will be the first time the club has played at level 10 of the English football league system.

Welcome to West, Jacques Etia!

We’re delighted to announce the former Stalybridge Celtic, Ashton United and Glossop North End attacker as our fifth summer signing.

Jacques told us, “I love the energy of the club and the community, which is something I’m all about. I’ve played with Lee and I’ve been coached by him and he’s always believed in me so I believe here is the right place for me to continue to progress.”

Lee Rick told us, “We are really excited to welcome Jacques to the club. He was our main target to strengthen in that area of the pitch and delighted he has agreed. Having worked with him before, I know exactly what he will bring. He is an exciting, direct player who has the ability to get supporters off their seat and entertain. He scores goals, creates chances and has a proven record of good numbers every season and he will be a real asset for us. I’m certain he will become a real fans favourite.”

Welcome to West, Jacques!

We are delighted to announce that Joe Berks has agreed to join West.

The midfielder came through the ranks at Port Vale before spells at Stafford Rangers, Hednesford Town and most recently at Mossley.

Joint Manager Lee Rick sees the 25 year old as a key signing as we build our squad for the new season, “Joe brings a wealth of quality and experience to the squad having competed at step 4 level over the past few seasons. He is a player I have worked with before and someone I know will not only raise the quality of the group but the standards and mentality. He is comfortable is a number of positions, possesses excellent technical ability and will be a real asset to the group.”

Joe told us, “I saw how well the club were supported at the Macron Cup Final and everything I’ve heard about the club has been great. I’ve spoken to Lee and Steve and their plans really align with what I want to achieve. I’ve played with Lee before and he really helped my game so he was a big factor in me joining the club.”

We are delighted to announce the signing of right back Joel Igwenwanne to West.

The 21 year old grew up in Germany before moving to the UK and joining the youth setup at Sheffield United. Since then he has played at Mossley, Wythenshawe Town, Glossop North End and Avro.

Lee Rick told us, “Joel is someone we identified as a key target early. Having made a number of appearances in a step 4 promotion winning side last season, he will not only bring quality but winning mentality and high standards to the group. He has all the attributes to establish himself as one of the leagues standout players in his position.”

Joel is looking forward to getting started at West, “I’m delighted to be here. I spoke with the managers and their ambitions to build a winning team that achieves promotion are exciting and meet my needs.”

Welcome to West, Joel 🤍🖤
