Balfour and Houldsworth Golf Competitions Committee Welcome to the official page of the B&H Golf Committee. Like us for regular updates and reports from our events.

The Committee are responsible for organising five annual golf events across the Manchester region. Members of clubs within a 25 mile radius of Manchester Town Hall are invited to enter this years events here:

Dennis Hand is the first player to win the Balfour (2008 playing off 11) and the 2026 Seniors Balfour - or the JD Farmer Seniors - as it is now known.

170 players have signed up for the 2026 Balfour Seniors at Withington Golf Club and there is still space for 8 more pairs.
£500 in prize Vouchers will go to the winning pair to share and then there is a further £800 in prizes spread over the next 6 places. Players must be members of a golf club within 25 miles of Manchester Town Hall.

Join us at Withington GC on Tuesday 18th August 2026 for the J D Farmer Seniors Pairs Stableford. Played off Yellow blocks with an 85% handicap allowance and max strokes of 24. Entry is £50 per pair. The Winners of the 2025 GS Lancashire Cup put Burnley Golf Club on the map for the first time in 104 years.

This year the GS Lancs was hosted by Bury Golf Club for the first time in 96 years, when the man himself - George S Lancashire of North Manchester GC -may well have been playing in the competition.

Richard Johnson, Captain of Styal Golf Club is the winner of the 2025 Balfour Cup. This Cup was presented to the Golfer of Manchester in 1897 by Manchester MP Arthur Balfour, who went on to become Prime Minister in1902.
