I know it has its merits, but I’ve always found ‘HIIT’ soooo boring. But I began thinking about ‘Spin’ which is pretty much HIIT on wheels, and how the music seems to really motivate me. So, I had an idea, why not try listening to the music I use in my ‘Spin’ class while on the X-Trainer, and let the beat of each track dictate my pace…?
… Well Wow! What a workout.
Thirty-three minutes later, I’d burned 567 Cals and my heart rate reaching a new personal best of 188 bpm (I’m 56, and according to the standard scale my 100% max heart rate is 164 bpm, so a big finger to that lol).
Anyway, should anyone be interested, I’ve laid out the format, as follows:
Thirty Minute HIIT to the Beat
Castle on the Hill Ed Sheeran 135bpm Warm up to Cruise Resistance 8 – 10 Time 04.18 Just to get the blood pumping a little
Sultans of Swing Dire Straits 148bpm High Tempo Cruise Res 10 – 14 Time 05.16 Just keep cruising (Let the beat be your pace setter)
Dark Horse Katy Perry feat. Juicy J 132bpm Climb Res 18 – 26 Time 03.31 (Resistance needs to be hard on the legs)
Waiting All Night Rudimental feat Ella Eyre 175bpm Cruise & Sprint Res 8 – 12 Time 04.52 (50 secs in comes the first of the killer sprints)
Magnets Disclosure feat. Lorde 92bpm Climb Res 18 – 26 Time 03.18 (Resistance needs to be hard on the legs)
Sandstorm Darude 140bpm High Tempo Cruise Res 10 -14 Time 04.39 (Keep up with the pack and test your stamina)
Holdin' On Monsta 87bpm Climb then Sprint Res 8 for sprints - 26 03.55 (Test those legs for real)
Mariah Carey 105bpm Cool Down Res 8 -1 Time 03.25 (Just slow it right down, feel the wind in your hair, and pat yourself on the back for a job well done.)
