Micheal Carrick has to be careful here.

If the plan is to go into the season with Mazraoui covering at left-back whenever Shaw is unavailable, while Yoro is expected to provide cover for Dalot, United are once again solving squad problems by moving players around.

That might work for a few games, but over a 50+ game season, it’s asking for trouble.

You need genuine competition and natural depth in key positions — not a squad where one injury forces two or three players into unfamiliar roles.

Carrick should be making it crystal clear to INEOS: these are the positions we need, and these are the players I need.
