We always hear yoga teachers saying “lift your chest”, “avoid rounding your back” in forward fold.
Why?
Hamstrings are attached at your shin bones and sit bones. This means you must tilt your pelvis forward in order to lengthen your hamstrings.
Rounding back is mainly stretching your back rather than tilting your pelvis. Keeping your back flat can help you to build awareness of your pelvis movement and maximise effectiveness of your hamstrings stretch.
