Yes, that’s me!
I recently bumped into a woman who recognised me from my dance competition days, and it made me realise just how much dance has shaped my life.
I loved the lessons, friendships, rehearsals, shows and especially the duets, trios and teams. I wasn’t particularly competitive as a solo dancer, but put me in a team and I wanted my dance school to win — and we usually did!
I learnt so much from my dance teachers, Miss Sharples, Miss Linda and Miss Karen — not just about dance, but about teamwork, discipline, confidence, organisation, posture, strength and resilience.
So many of those lessons have stayed with me throughout my work and personal life.
It’s not just education that shapes us. To all the teens waiting for their GCSE results, remember that your hobbies, friendships, teams and experiences can teach you just as much about who you are and who you can become.
What hobby did you have as a child that has stayed with you?
