Whether you’re just starting out or sharpening your fundamentals, learning the boxing number system makes combinations easier to understand and remember.

Here’s the basic breakdown:

1️⃣ Jab
2️⃣ Cross
3️⃣ Lead Hook
4️⃣ Rear Hook
5️⃣ Lead Uppercut
6️⃣ Rear Uppercut

Master each punch individually before putting them together into combinations. Good technique will always beat rushing through reps.

Which guard best suits your style? 🥊👇

Every guard has its strengths. The best one depends on your style, range and the opponent in front of you.

💬 Which guard do you use most: Traditional, High, Long, Philly, Cross or Low?

Good footwork isn’t about moving more. It’s about moving smarter.

This is a simple beginner drill I use to teach the step-pivot to the left.

Using a pad as a reference point, we start in stance facing the target. Take a small step with the lead foot to the left, then pivot to finish back in your boxing stance, facing your opponent while maintaining the same distance.

The goal is to create a new angle without sacrificing your balance, stance or range.

I also have my students throw a jab before the pivot. The jab occupies the opponent while you step around them, helping you gain the positional advantage.

In boxing, position is everything. The fighter in the better position controls the exchanges, creates better scoring opportunities and is harder to hit.

Save this drill for your next session and let me know what other footwork breakdowns you’d like to see. 🥊
