Prioritising fitness as a mum of 2 isn’t about having loads of free time because honestly, there isn’t much of it. It’s about choosing yourself too, even in the middle of school runs, laundry, work, snacks, and endless to-do lists.

Some days the workout is short. Some days it’s interrupted. Some days it’s just showing up tired. But moving my body gives me energy, so much more patience and a little bit of time that’s just mine.

Motherhood can make you put yourself last without even realising it. Fitness reminds me that looking after myself matters too. Not just for me, but for my kids who are always watching and learning.

It’s not always easy to find the time, but it’s always worth it because I know it’ll make me a better Mam that day!

I would stop obsessing over the weight on the scales, day to day scale changes are usually caused by shifts in water, food volume, hormones, and digestion rather than rapid fat gain or loss.

I encourage my client to track fat loss progress by taking measurements, progress photos and taking note of how clothes feel. Focus on getting stronger and eating better and you will lose fat!

Your peak bone mass is mostly built in your teens and 20s. Strength training during those years can increase how much bone you build and store, which matters because aging naturally reduces bone density. Starting from a higher baseline lowers the risk of osteoporosis and fractures later on.

Strength training improves:

* Coordination
* Joint stability
* Reaction time
* Posture

Falls are one of the biggest health threats in older adults, and stronger legs/hips/core greatly reduce that risk.

Let me guess, you’re going to the gym 5 days a week, spending hours there but not seeing the fat loss results you want?

One mistake you’re probably making is your calorie intake! Weight loss isn’t driven by how hard a single gym session feels it’s driven by your overall energy balance across the day. In order to lose fat you need to be in a calorie deficit and your strength sessions are what is going shape your body! A calorie deficit simply means you’re using more energy than you’re taking in, and that’s what forces your body to tap into stored energy (body fat).

This week is maternal mental health awareness week!

1 in 4 mums in the UK will experience a mental health problem during pregnancy or in the year after birth. That’s around 150,000 women a year.

I lucky enough not to struggle severely but having children has a huge impact on women’s mental health during postpartum and after!
