Last weekend we sent four of our players to compete in the BRT Summer Singles tournament! 🎱

On the first day, indies was played until round 3 where Ben Wornes progressed to the QFs after beating Sean Doyle 6-3. Ben Colbourne and Tommy both went into the lower bracket after tough matches. Olivia won in the first round after her opponent was too terrified to show up and went to the lower bracket after being beat 4-2 by the number 1 seed, Caitlyn Heptinstall.

Doubles was not meant to be for the Manchester lot as we all went out first round in our respective matches. Maybe next year will be our year! Our matches were not helped by the fact that someone decided Leon Lawrinson should have a microphone, after which we were subjected to his colourful opinions 💀. Fortunately for Leon the microphone was only connected to the entire building so everyone was able to gain a glimpse into his beautiful mind 🧠.

After celebrating the first day with a night out, Ben C would succumb to 42s. Tommy faced off against Lancaster’s Joe Ashcroft in a tough decider and unfortunately went out. Olivia made it through three rounds of the lower bracket before losing in a decider to Gemma Goldie. Meanwhile, Ben W took on BUCS indies champs winner Tim Hurst and emerged victorious with a 6-1 win! Ben then went on to beat Jimmy Ellina 6-1 in the semis. The highly anticipated final with Sean Doyle ended with Ben winning, taking home a trophy!

Overall, it was a wonderful weekend with twists and turns for our players! We hope next year to see more Manchester at Northwest BRT! We want to say a huge thank you to BRT for organising the tournament as well as Royal Sports Lounge for hosting!

This weekend we have four players competing in the BRT Summer Singles and Doubles tournament. Make the Northwest proud!

🏆 Manchester Snooker Alumni ‘26 🏆

What an incredible weekend for the inaugural Manchester Snooker Alumni, hosted at Club 200.

A huge thank you to everyone who travelled from across the country to compete and help make the event such a success. It was fantastic to see so many universities represented and so many familiar faces around the tables, both new and old. The atmosphere throughout the weekend was brilliant, and I’m personally very happy with how smoothly the inaugural event ran.

In total, 429 frames were played across 101 matches with 20 respotted black deciders, producing plenty of drama and memorable moments across the weekend.

🎱 Individuals Championship

Congratulations to Matei Rosca of Manchester who became the inaugural Manchester Snooker Alumni Individuals Champion after producing a comeback from 0–2 down to defeat Michael Andrews of Southampton 3–2 in a thrilling final.

🥇 Matei Rosca

🏆 Teams Championship

Congratulations to UCL, who were crowned the inaugural Teams Championship Champions after an excellent weekend of snooker, beating Sheffield in the Final.

🥇 UCL 1s

A special mention goes to LJMU, who claimed third place after defeating Southampton in a dramatic blue-ball shootout.

🏆 Teams Trophy

💥 Highest Breaks

🥈 67 – Michael Andrews

🥉 65 – John Hamilton (Sheffield)

Congratulations once again to all of our champions, finalists and prize winners, as well as everyone who competed throughout the weekend. Thank you to everyone who helped keep the tournament running smoothly, whether by taking over when I had to go and play my games, reporting results or simply lending a hand when needed.

Finally, a huge thank you to Club 200 | Pool • Snooker • Bar • Restaurant for hosting us and helping make the inaugural Manchester Snooker Alumni such a success. We hope everyone enjoyed the weekend, and we look forward to welcoming you all back next year for an even bigger and better event!

What a weekend we had in Stoke! We started off Friday with group stages of indies, where Tommy topped his group undefeated and progressed to championships. The rest of us played in the plate indies. On Saturday we had our first knockout games as well as teams where we faced Aber and Dundee 1s. After successfully losing 7-3 to both teams, we saw ourselves in the plate.

Despite a good effort by Aber and Dundee to cheer on Norway (and in the process bruising their fists…), England would emerge triumphant as Norway shat the bed. We watched the match at Players where we were treated to exceptional hospitality by their staff!

Outstanding performances were seen from Bailey and Luke who progressed to the semifinals of the plate indies! Tommy took on Dundee’s Andrew Lacey in the champs quarterfinals and was victorious! He put up a strong fight in the semifinals against the eventual champs winner James Wilson. Tommy took home £75 for making it to the semifinals!

In our team knock outs, we beat Chester 3s 6-1 before facing Staffordshire 2s in the semifinals. We were 5-4 down until Olivia won her last frame, bringing us to a captains playoff. Tommy put in a strong shift but unfortunately we were unable to make it to the finals.

All in all, we had an excellent weekend with wonderful performances across the board. It would be James’s first pool tournament and he put in a good shift in teams and indies! We hope to bring more you next year! 🎱💜💛

Two of our members joined England in the Home Nations to assert dominance over Scotland and Wales! Ben featured in the Open England All stars and Olivia competed in the Women’s England Rookies.

England sweeps up the competition with an especially impressive Open England Rookies topping the group undefeated. They would later face the Scotland All Stars in the Trophy. The Open England All Stars place second in the groups and secure their place in the championship against the Cymru All Stars.

With a series of tense finals and strong performances across the board, England comes out with four gold medals from the team knockouts and four trophies awarded to the indies England winners and runner-ups. Additionally, England also secured all the open and women’s trophies for the Most Valuable Player award!

We thank the UPC and Ultimate Pool for a wonderful weekend and a huge congratulations to the England teams for bringing it home! Another congratulations goes to the Open Cymru and Scotland All Stars as well as the Women’s Scotland teams for showing a strong performance and securing medals in the finals!

Congratulations to Olivia and Ben for successfully trialling for Home Nations and representing England! We hope we can get more of our UoM players into Home Nations next year 👀

Last weekend we sent 3 teams to the updated format for Birmingham 8 ball.

The indies proved to be a tough run for us with only Ben making the last 32. Thankfully the teams are worth mentioning.

The 1s started with an impressive 31-5 frames record to top the group stage but lost to Notts 1s in the champs/trophy pre-lim. From here it was a confident run to the trophy final where a predictably strong Lanc 3s team unfortunately got the better of us.

After a solid group stage the 2s ( Sharav Anand ) and 3s ( Charlie Ponting Olivia Kellett )found themselves matched up in the shield/vase pre-lim. After a close and entertaining match, it came down to a final frame decider in which the 3s ended up being the winners. An immediately tough match up against Birmingham 1s in the shield QF meant that the 3s were unfortunately knocked out. The 2s managed to confidently defeat Birmingham 6s but Leeds 3s proved too much in the vase semis.

This will be my last tournament as 8-Ball captain so I was pleased to hold a 100% match record in the teams given the format. Thanks to everyone who has shown interest in coming to league and representing the team this year and you’ll be in good hands with next year.

Cheers, Henry.

Week 10 pool league 7/5/2026

Billy vs Ben C, 10:35pm on 7th May 2026 the balls are racked, last round, a win for Billy would mean glory. A loss would hand Wornes the trophy. Fast forward 10 nail biting minutes, the man from Stockport steps up to the black….. and drains it.

A huge congratulations to for winning league this semester, especially impressive as this was his first year at the society, beating out very strong competition 🏆

Also huge well done to second is still a very good achievement and it is sad to see him leave us at the end of the year. What he does on and off the table for our society is impressive. 🥈

Sharav looked like he had top 3 on lockdown, it would take a complete Arsenal bottle from him and a flawless run from , andddddddd that’s exactly what happened. Congrats to Tommy for 🥉 a very impressive night

The rest of the top 10 is as follows
4) Sharav
5) Bailey
6) Ben C
7) Jake
8) Toki
9) Tony
10) Olivia

Thank you to everyone who came out to league this year. It’s been a pleasure to be your league sec and I’m already looking forward to doing it all again next year 🎱

Week 9 pool league 30/4/2026

Forget the premier league, forget the snooker, this championship is the one everyone should have eyes on going in to its final stages.

A poor week from Wornes dropping 3 games has seen him slip to 3rd, Billy and Sharav are the beneficiaries who move up to 1st and 2nd respectively. With one week to go there’s just 0.526 separating these 3. It really could go any way!!

Best of the rest is Tommy in 4th, Bailey 5th, Ben C 6th, Jake 7th, Olivia 8th, myself 9th and Tony 10th.

See you all next week for the final dance, you really don’t want to miss this one,

Henry C.
