Malmesbury Tennis Club was invited to attend The All England Club this week (August 20th) to celebrate being established over 100 years ago!

Sixteen members had the experience of a lifetime when they were invited to a special event at the All England Club in London to celebrate the club’s centenary.

The tennis enthusiasts were treated to a day of celebrations together with 15 other clubs from around the country. The day kicked off with a welcome drinks reception, followed by official team photographs and a museum and shop visit – and topped off with an exclusive falconry display by Rufus the Harris hawk (with our Membership Secretary assisting in the demo!!).

The highlight of the day though was for eight members of the group to be given an hour’s play on the hallowed grass courts of Wimbledon for a spot of mixed doubles.

Everyone agreed the day was an experience of a lifetime and expressed their thanks to the AELTC for hosting us so well.

We were contacted by Thea the Wiltshire Cricket Development Officer. She reached out to us to see if we had any old used tennis balls.

Wiltshire Cricket use tennis balls when coaching in schools around the county and unsurprisingly they lose a lot of during their lessons.

Luckily our old tennis ball trunk needed sorting. James our club coach and Javi our Chairman went through them and donated the best of a bad bunch 😊

We wanted to thank Christopher who is here with Javier Garcia our Chair. He has donated his rackets to the club. A long standing member who can no longer take advantage of our facilities.

We hope we can use these rackets to help individuals who would like to start playing but do not have the means to do so. These will be available to borrow.

Wiltshire Council is hosting Louise Hunt Skelley (Paralympian Wheelchair Tennis Player) in June at Royal Wootton Bassett library to promote her new book.

Today we had all courts treated and ready for the summer. Looks like the weather is on our side too this week.

These photos are of our Community Court, open to anyone living in Malmesbury for free. You just need to make sure you register as a Community Member on our website and book your slot!

Full memberships are also available for full club access to facilities, social play and events.
