Special Educational Needs and Disability Register

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Register is a list of children and young people from RBWM who have special educational needs or a disability. All local areas must have a register by law, but being a part of it is voluntary. Parents, carers or guardians can register on behalf of a child or young person. Young people can register independently if they are over the age of 13. To be added onto the register, the young person must live in RBWM and be under 25 years of age.

The SEND Register helps the borough support children and young people with disabilities or complex needs by:
• Giving you relevant information, advice and support that is targeted directly to your child or young person's needs.
• Giving you information from other agencies which specialise in working with children and young people with special educational needs or disabilities.
It also provides the following benefits:
• The register accurately reflects the range of disabilities and special needs of the resident population aged 0 to 25 years.
• Having a better understanding of your needs, the register helps us to plan services for the future of all children and young people with special needs.

Advice from Mencap

This week, the weather is expected to be very hot.

People with a learning disability, autism, and ADHD might not notice when they are getting too hot or need a break.

They might not know they are overheating until they feel unwell.

We have made an easy read to help you stay safe and comfortable in the heat. It has ways to stay cool, how to protect yourself from the sun and other helpful tips for hot weather.

Sportworks activities
Achieving for Children, the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead (RBWM), and Sportworks are soft launching a new short break club designed to provide enriching, safe, and fun-filled experiences for children and young people with mild to moderate SEND.

There are two weekly term-time sessions at the Maidenhead Community Centre. Sessions run on the following dates and times:
• Mondays from 4pm to 6pm (8 to 13 year olds)
• Thursdays from 4pm to 6pm (14 to 17 year olds)
If your family is currently receiving a package of support from the Children and Young People Disability Service, you are not eligible for this short breaks offer.

A red heat health alert for much of England, including Berkshire and the South East, has been issued this morning, which will run from 1am this Wednesday, June 24, until 11pm on Thursday, June 25.
Until then, an amber health health alert is in force.
The red alert means that severe effects are expected across health and social care services, due to the high temperatures, including increased risk to life, particularly among older people, and significantly increased demand on all health and social care services.
Daytime temperatures are expected to reach between 35C and 40C from tomorrow until Thursday, with overnight temperatures remaining above 20C.
