April is Adenomyosis awareness month and it also marks five years post hysterectomy for me ๐ณ
For most of my life despite seeing numerous doctor and gynaecologists. I was dismissed โwe canโt see any endometriosis or cystsโ.
It got to the point where for two weeks or more every month I was I such agony to a level I couldnโt get a handle on it even with pain relief. I tried all of the treatments suggested to me also.
The effects on me physically and mentally were huge. I literally felt I only had one week every month that was โokayโ and it was still full of dread for what was to come. ๐
I also struggled so much emotionally with all the side effects, but also started to think it was all in my headโฆ ๐
Mentally that was a very scary place for me and only I am soo resilient from all my hard work on my mental health and coping strategies it could have been very different.
Itโs a very long story in getting to the point of my hysterectomy.
I eventually paid private for my surgery. But it has been the best thing Iโve done for myself and my family. ๐ฅฐ
It was confirmed by my surgeon that I definitely did have Adenomyosis from lab testing. ๐ฌ
Iโm thankful now the condition is getting more known, and more management strategies are being discussed and ladies are being supported. But still so much needs to be done. ๐ฏ

By definition ๐๐ผ
Adenomyosis (ad-uh-no-my-O-sis) occurs when the tissue that normally lines the uterus (endometrial tissue) grows into the muscular wall of the uterus. The displaced tissue continues to act normally โ thickening, breaking down and bleeding โ during each menstrual cycle.
For me it brought unbearable pain, extreme bleeding, vomiting, mental health struggles and made every day life extremely difficult. It affected my work and most of all my family life (I almost always made it to work, but that meant every other hour in bed).

As always Iโm sharing this all in the help it might help someone else and Iโm still surprised by the number of messages I get from ladies (for all reasons) getting a hysterectomy.
Take home. Please look for answers and keep pushing if you know things arenโt right ๐๐ผ (also go see a good female health physiotherapist before any surgery to make sure you are as strong as possible pre surgery and will help you rehab properly post surgery ๐)
If I can point anyone in the right direction for support and advice I always will
Please just drop me a message
