Another great weekend down the club, starting Friday with the women’s and juniors, before the senior sides took centre stage across the weekend.
The 1st XI lost by 1 run in an entertaining game. After a strong 40 overs with the ball, the final 10 got away from us slightly, leaving 169 to chase. The run chase looked all but over when Elliot Colston and Lee Hicks met at the crease in the 37th over, needing 76 runs to win. However, a brilliant stand from Elliot and an unbelievable 51 from Lee, left us needing 2 runs from the final 2 balls. Unfortunately, only a single was made, but the character shown proves the boys are never truly out of a game.
The 2nd XI continued their winning form after beating a strong and experienced Ammanford side. Lloyd Wilkshire scored a superb 101, a true captain’s performance, with others contributing around him. Nicholas Dixon finished the innings with a quickfire 24* to help set a total of 242. Another strong bowling performance followed, especially from Andrew Whelan and young Alfie Bevan on debut, as the 2nd XI won by 71 runs despite some questionable calls.
The 3rd XI continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 5-wicket win. They were set 199 to chase from 40 overs after a solid bowling performance, with opening pair Thomas Harding and Adrian Stevenson particularly economical. The total was chased down in 38 overs, with contributions throughout the order.
Another strong weekend from all three sides.
