Yesterday was the Deadly Dozen DFT comp and there are a few things I want to say because this applies to so many people that may read this whether you took part yesterday, thought about doing it, spoke to me about it but didn’t take the opportunity, or wanted to do it but never spoke up.
Over the last few weeks so many of you have been worrying about it taking part in the DFT or other comps, You told me you “wanted to get a good time” “didn’t want to let people down” “felt like you wouldn’t be good enough”, and a whole list of other concerns. I completely understand those feelings and appreciate where you are coming from.
When you saw us yesterday with the timers, clipboards and score sheets, yes, we were collecting your times, But as your PT, and more importantly as your friend, I genuinely couldn’t be more arsed what time you got on your first comp. What mattered to me was that you all showed up, You faced the nerves, pushed through the doubts and anxieties and took part in the comp.
I was incredibly proud of every single person who turned up yesterday and gave it a go, as i was watching you all, i was beaming with pride that you was doing something youd never done before, but kept pushing through, how all that hard work and dedication led to that very moment - you being the best you, you can be. A wise man once said: “you can either compete, or you can complete”.
The most important part of any competition isn’t the score or the leaderboard for me if you’ve never done anything like this before, or even if your a pro, it’s having the courage to overcome your doubts, fears and insecurities. That’s what made me proud yesterday. Turning up is so important, and that’s the hardest part of being in the gym.
So, well done to everyone who took part yesterday. And well done to everyone who turns up week after week, puts in the work and keeps grafting. It isn’t always easy, but we see you, we’re proud of you, and we’re quietly supporting you every step of the way.
If anyone has any doubts but really wants to do something like this, please come and speak to us, it dont even have to be me, it could be G or pip and even the fantastic members we have in our gym.
