Why doesn't my life work that way?

I talked yesterday about how we my think "My life doesn't work like that".

And how only by getting clear on what we mean by that and how our life 'does work' will we find a solution that does work for us.

But it's also a powerful thing to remember that a fairly high proportion of the way that our life works........

Is because we designed it like that,

Maybe not consciously.

Maybe we didn't set out for it to be this way.

But the majority of the way things are is an accumulation of the decisions that we made along the way.

Not all, sure.

But I'd wager more than we might realise.

Our work, family, commitments, health and fitness and more have been largely shaped by thousands of decisions we made over years.

Maybe we've gone too far down a certain path to be able (or willing) to make some changes.

But there are probably more ways that we can change our life than we might initially think.

Many of the rules we think our life operates under were written by us.

So next time we're tempted to think "my life doesn't work that way"...........

It might also be beneficial to ask ourselves "could my life work that way?"

Much love,

Jon 'got flipped turned upside down' Hall

P.S. Many many Macclesfield people who've joined our programme have described it as "life changing". And "one of the best decisions I've ever made" - want to see if that's the case for you? Then comment below or send me a DM to come down, see how it works and decide if you want to try out the risk-free 4 Week Kickstart programme.

"I'd struggle to remember all that..."

We hear this more often than you'd think.

People see a workout, a session plan, or a list of exercises and immediately worry they'll forget what they're supposed to do.

The reality?

At RISE, you don't need to remember anything.

Your coach explains the session, demonstrates the exercises, guides you through the workout, and is there throughout to help if you need it.

In many ways, there's far less to remember here than in a conventional gym.

If that's been one of your concerns, this video should put your mind at ease.

"My life doesn't work like that"

I've mentioned many times in these blogs about how I've noticed various different phrases come into and out of use over the near 25 years I've been in the Fitness Industry.

One that I've noticed more and more over the last few years is the title to this blog.

"My life doesn't work like that"

Used generally in response to a suggestion as to something that can be done to help someone achieve a health and fitness related goal.

So someone might tell me they, for example, want to lose weight and and increase their energy levels.

I'll start to look with them at some changes we can make to do this.

Having never heard it for the first few decades, I now hear more "My life doesn't work like that".

I consider part of what I do is to help people ask better questions.

And, to me, the obvious response to this is "That's cool. How does your life work?"

Invariably this draws some confused looks and "What do you mean?"s.

As always, the key with solving any problem is get to clear on what the problem is.

The vaguer the problem, the less like to solution is to succeed.

If someone's "life doesn't work that way" because they're busy, that's cool - let's find a solution that is based on things that require little or no extra time and / or are as time efficient as possible.

If someone's "life doesn't work that way" because they need flexibility, that's cool - let's find a solution that is flexible.

If someone's "life doesn't work that way" because they socialise or travel a lot, that's cool - let's find a solution that works around that and creates an average that takes them in the direction they want to go.

If someone's "life doesn't work that way" because they just don't want to do a particular, that's cool - let's find a solution that involves things they are willing to do.

I get it.

Not all solutions are the right fit for different people.

We don't do one size fits all approaches.

But only by getting clear on why an approach doesn't fit will we get to one that does.

Much love,

100lbs off, best health and fitness in decades, recovering well from a knee replacement and now 650 Sessions down - go Chris!

If you're anything less than 100% happy with your results over the last few years, drop me a message to arrange to come down to RISE, see a Session in action and decide if it's something for you (no pressure, no salesly stuff)!

I hate exercise... can I still get results?

You might be surprised how often we hear this.

Most people who come to RISE aren't fitness fanatics. They're not people who love spending hours in the gym. In fact, many have found gyms boring, intimidating, confusing, or simply impossible to stick with long term.

That's exactly who RISE was built for.

If you've struggled to stay motivated with exercise in the past, or you've never found a type of training you actually enjoy, this video is worth watching.

Drop us a message if you'd like to come and see what makes it different.

"What do you want me to hold you accountable to?"

A word that I talk about in these blogs and elsewhere is "accountability".

And that's often what people feel they need more of before they join.

With the things they've done before, it hasn't really mattered if they've done them or not.

Not short term anyway.

No one notices or cares if you go to the Globo Gym that you've joined or not.

Our friends and family aren't really going to be calling us out when we stop doing the 'latest diet'.

They might even be subconsciously glad that we have.

Failure is best endured shared after all.

Having someone to be accountable to can be a powerful part of the equation.

But we've never really been taught about accountability.

Sounds good, but we don't necessarily approach it in the best way.

Often when people talk to me about me holding them accountable, I'll ask "What do you want me to hold you accountable to?".

And their answer will normally be something like "This".

"Doing it".

"All of it".

And that sounds great.

But it's a bit vague.

And the problem with vague is it's often left to just how we feel about it.

If I were to ask a couple of days later "Are you doing 'all of it'?".......

We would probably say "No".

Feel that we've "failed".

Decide to "start again next week".

You can't be accountable to a feeling.

When we put specifics to an intention and have someone who will check in with us on that.........

It doesn't make it automatically happen.

But, from my experience, it makes it a lot more likely.

If we decide what we're going to do and when........

Then we're likely to schedule it and make plans around it.

Get the buy-in of those that involved in helping making it happen (or the other things around it happen).

We'll know if we're on track.

And we'll have something to look at and learn from if we're not.

Putting a number on something is an easy first step.

A number of activities in a certain time frame.

"I'm going to do three workouts and eat a total of 12,000 calories this week"........

Is more likely to get scheduled, planned for and done than "I'm going to eat better and do some more exercise".

And even more likely when you set that intention with someone, like me, who will then check in with you on it (comment below or send me a DM to find out more).

If you can't measure it, nobody can hold you accountable to it.

Much love,

Jon 'Married to an accountant' Hall

"I'm too busy to get in shape"

It's one of the most common things I've heard in nearly 25 years in the fitness industry.

And to be fair, most people are busy.

That's exactly why everything we do at RISE is designed around helping busy people get results without spending hours in the gym or completely overhauling their lives.

If you've been putting fitness off because you don't think you have the time, this video is for you.

Drop us a message if you'd like to come and see how it works.

We want the hole

A mistake that many FitPros make is that they try and sell you their 'method'.

The way they do things.

- The sessions.

- The workouts.

- The equipment they use.

- Their programming.

All valid things of course.

All important parts of getting someone closer to their health and fitness goals.

But....

No one really joins a facility for these things.

They join for the results that they can bring about.

And the experience of achieving these results.

When you buy a drill bit, it's not the bit itself you want.

It's the hole it creates.

And, really, what that hole then allows.

The mirror or pictures you can hang.

The furniture you can assemble and then use, or whatever else it is.

You may choose to invest some more cash in a higher quality bit (and drill) that makes the drilling easier and more enjoyable.

But it's still the hole and what that allows that you want.

You don't really want 'exercise' as such.

You want the leaner, stronger, fitter, faster, less pained, healthier body

And, really, what that body then allows.

The fun stuff you can do.

For longer.

The feeling better.

Exercise can be made to be as enjoyable as possible.

And that's what we work hard to do.

But you don't have to love it.

And when the people who are selling us that exercise tell us how much they love it and how amazing they feel......

And we don't quite feel the same (which I personally don't)........

Then it's easy to lose the enthusiasm for it.

When we accept that exercise is largely a 'means to an end'.

When we realise that it can be relatively enjoyable.........

But that we wouldn't do it without the benefits it brings.......

And that it's more than worth it for those benefits (comment below or send me a DM to find out more) ...............

When we accept we're after the hole and what that allows..............

Rather than the drill bit itself..............

Then it all becomes a bit (pardon the pun) easier to maintain.

Much love,

Jon 'Celebrity Skin' Hall
