Happy February everyone!

Anyone else emerging from the haze that is January and feeling hopeful for spring and longer days?!

I love setting my own little exercise challenges to keep myself motivated, and I’ve got a WhatsApp group where I share a daily exercise you can try.

It’s also a place you can share what you’re working on and we can all cheer each other on a bit. We all need a bit of that, right?

It’s just for fun, positive vibes only. Link to join is in the comments ⬇️

As we approach the end of year, it’s time to give some enormous high fives and say a giant THANK YOU to everyone who has joined my classes (especially the 6am crew, extra soft spot for you lot!), braved my S&C programs, been on my workshops and all of you who have trusted me to be your coach ❤️

It’s so hard to pick special commendations this year, they are..

💪🏼 Ben, the kettlebell king, who tells me honestly when something is too easy so we can ramp it up.. and also just keeps having to buy heavier and heavier kettlebells.

💪🏼 Frances, who has gained SO much mobility following a hip replacement and sends me excited messages about her favourite exercises and what DOMS she has that day.

💪🏼 Cassie, who is committed to the classes and still shows up at 6am when it really is not her favourite time of day.

💪🏼 Barbara, the menopause muscle master, who has fully taken ownership of the ‘scary corner’ of the gym!

My Client of the Year for 2025, goes to Eve (pictured). Eve completed her first 50km this year and bloomin’ loved it. She trusts the process, and puts in the work. She NEVER skips a workout, she can ALWAYS find a gym no matter what country she finds herself in and she just keeps on getting stronger.. demonstrating that consistency is the thing that matters most. Let’s give her (and everyone else) a big cheer 🙌🏼

A massive shout out to everyone who boshed the Yorkshire Marathon and 10 mile at the weekend, as well as all of you who took on the wickedly steep climbs at the British Fell Relays (do share your race pics!!).

Special mention though, goes to Tom. Tom not only took on his first marathon, but chose a ten lapper for it and absolutely nailed his pacing strategy after solid and consistent training. Let’s give him some cheers 💪🏼💪🏼

Literally been talking to two clients about this in the last week.

If you’re an overstrider or someone who frequently gets runners knee, training to run with a higher cadence could be a good way to reduce your landing impact.. or just to run a bit quicker with not much extra effort 💪🏼

Want to run faster without putting in extra effort?
It’s all about cadence, the number of steps you take per minute. Studies show that a higher cadence (170-180 steps per minute for most runners) can improve efficiency and reduce the risk of injury.

If your cadence is too low, you might be overstriding, which wastes energy and puts extra stress on your joints.

To improve, start by counting your steps for 60 seconds during a run. If your cadence is below 170, aim to gradually increase it by 5% over a few weeks. Focus on shorter, quicker strides and maintaining good form.

Use a metronome app or upbeat music to help you stay in rhythm. Faster feet mean smoother, more efficient running—and who doesn’t want that?

Get past the opening line about dropping your phone down the toilet, and this a good article.

Grip strength has been shown time and time again to be a solid indicator of overall heath and longevity 💪🏼

A weak grip goes hand in hand with higher risk of heart attack and stroke, and is linked to everything from diabetes and obesity to muscle loss. Here’s what to do about it

So here’s your monthly reminder that I can support you to get to the start line of that event you’ve signed up to: well trained, mentally prepared and feeling strong.
