Whether you're a gear geek or just looking for a reliable EDC, the lock on your knife matters. Spyderco is famous for pushing the envelope with their locking mechanisms—here’s a breakdown of the big ones you’ll see in their lineup:
🔒 The Compression Lock
Likely their most famous innovation. It’s located on the spine of the handle, making it incredibly strong and—most importantly—keeping your fingers out of the blade's path when closing. You'll find this on icons like the Para 3 and Paramilitary 2.
🔒 The Back Lock
The classic. It’s simple, ambidextrous, and incredibly proven. Spyderco refined this traditional design to be sleeker and more reliable. Look for it on the Delica 4 or the Endura.
🔒 The Ball Bearing Lock
This one uses a free-floating ball bearing contained in a cage. It’s silky smooth, completely ambidextrous, and gets even better with use. The Manix 2 is the king of this lock style.
