Well…

I did it 😅

I went to the tattoo consultation.

And you know what? All that overthinking… all those "what ifs"… all that stress I built up in my head…

Didn't match reality at all.

The artist was lovely. She listened. She got my ideas. And instead of feeling panicked… I actually felt excited.

Funny how that works, isn't it?

It made me think back to my last post about how scary it can feel to do something new. How easy it is to talk yourself out of it. How your brain loves to exaggerate the unknown.

And honestly? Starting at the gym is no different.

I see it all the time.

People walk in expecting:
❌ Judgement
❌ Feeling out of place
❌ Not being "fit enough"

And what they actually find is:
✅ Support
✅ Encouragement
✅ People just like them

💡 The hardest part is rarely the thing itself…

It's the story you tell yourself beforehand.

Now, I'm not saying getting a tattoo and starting your fitness journey are exactly the same (one is slightly more permanent 😅)…

But the principle is.

You don't need to feel ready. You don't need to feel confident. You just need to show up.

💪 If you've been thinking about getting started, or getting back into it, take this as your reminder: The version of it in your head is usually far scarier than the real thing.

I’m now taking on new clients for my group training business, TrueFit Group Training

No pressure, no judgement, just a really supportive environment to help you get going. And who knows… you might walk out wondering why you didn't do it sooner!

I might regret this…🫣

I'm posting this just before heading out to something that feels way outside my comfort zone…

I've got a consultation booked with a tattoo artist to talk about my very first tattoo 😬

And honestly? I am absolutely bricking it.

What if I don't explain my idea properly? What if she doesn't "get" me? What if I make the wrong decision… and regret it? What if I'm too old for this?

So many thoughts, all at once.

And it got me thinking…

👉 This must be exactly how so many people feel before walking into a gym for the first time. Or even before coming in to meet me for a consultation.

That mix of:
❗️Nerves
❗️Self-doubt
❗️What if I'm not good enough?
❗️What if they don't like me?
❗️Who am I kidding? I'm too old for the gym

It's a lot. Even when you know it matters… it still feels uncomfortable.

💡 But here's the thing…

Nothing changes if you always stay where you feel safe.

Every bit of growth… confidence… strength… it all lives just outside that comfort zone.

And sometimes, the hardest part isn't the workout…

It's just walking through the door.

Right now, I'm choosing to go anyway.

Because I know that even if it feels scary, I'll learn something, grow from it, and (hopefully!) come away excited about what's next.

And I want the same for you.

You don't need to feel "ready". You don't need to have it all figured out. You just need to take that first step.

💪 If you've been thinking about joining a class, or getting back into a routine… take this as your sign.

I’m now taking on new clients for my group training business, TrueFit Group Training where you’ll find a supportive environment from day one. Join us and see what it’s all about. You might surprise yourself.

“𝑰 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈!”

I’m not usually one to post transformation photos. I try to help clients focus on the intrinsic benefits of training rather than obsessing too much over physique, and to be honest, I don’t post much on social media these days.

But when Hanna said those three words as we looked at her before-and-after photos, I knew this post had to be shared. This one is worth breaking my social media hiatus to celebrate ❤️

In the 17 months we’ve worked together, Hanna has lost 3 dress sizes and 4 stone. On day 1, she walked into Macclesfield Performance having never stepped foot in a gym before, asking herself, “What have I gotten myself into?”

She’d never done a single exercise in her life. Everything felt alien. Still, she told herself she’d give it a try.

Week after week, she learned new movements, improved her technique, and developed a genuine interest in training. Hanna used to be the first person to put herself down.

“All my life, people have always told me I won’t be able to do something so I believed them,” she once said to me.

So hearing her say, “I look banging,” is powerful.

Because the Hanna I know today oozes confidence. “I can’t” has been replaced with “I will” and “I won’t give up until I can.”

Hanna, everything you’ve been through and every goal you’ve smashed makes you an inspiration for anyone sitting at home thinking they can’t change or achieve their goals.

If Hanna’s journey inspires you, drop an emoji in the comments so she can see just how much love she’s getting 👇

And yes… I agree.
You look banging. 💪🔥

I was sorting through old photos and found this gem (first pic!). I’d always been active, but back then my workouts were mostly cardio, and my diet… well, let’s just say takeaways and wine featured heavily 🍟🍷

Not long after, I decided to invest in myself and hired a personal trainer. That decision changed everything. I began training smarter, eating better, and slowly but surely, my strength and confidence grew.

But my journey wasn’t always balanced. In 2016 (second pic), I looked fit, but I was overtraining, obsessed with exercise, and struggling behind the scenes. Funny thing is, I didn’t even think I was lean enough at the time.

Fast forward to today (third pic): I’m stronger, healthier, and happier. I’ve found balance, perspective, and a training approach that supports my life, rather than consuming it.

These photos hold a great deal of significance for me. They remind me how far I’ve come, and how grateful I am for every step of the journey. Yes, even the tough ones.

If you’re unsure about working with a personal trainer, come try TrueFit Group Training, my group PT programme. It’s expert support in a fun, uplifting space with like-minded people.

🧠💪 I recently came across these MRI scan images and had to share them! It really makes you stop and think…

MRI scans comparing the thigh muscles of:
1️⃣ A 40 year old triathlete
2️⃣ A 74 year old sedentary man
3️⃣ A 70 year old triathlete

👉 The takeaway? Muscle loss isn’t just about ageing - it’s more about lifestyle. The 70 year old triathlete maintained impressive muscle mass thanks to regular training.

🚫 Sedentary habits shrink not just muscles but even bone density.

✅ Stay active, move daily, and protect your strength, balance, independence and vitality — at ANY age!

If you want help building or maintaining your strength as you age, let’s chat! I offer 1:1 coaching and small group training.

As a PT, I meet many people who focus solely on cardio and don’t incorporate resistance training into their fitness routine. So today, I want to share…

𝟱 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝘁 𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝘆𝗺 🏋🏻‍♀️

It will…

🥰 BOOST YOUR CONFIDENCE
I have so much more confidence now than I ever had growing up. When I first started training, I worried people were thinking, "What the hell is she doing?!" Now that I've been lifting for years, I feel confident walking into any gym and pushing myself past my limit. I love that feeling! It also feels empowering to do things myself and not have to ask for help.

🔥 BURN MORE CALORIES
The best part of resistance training is the afterburn effect... when you lift weights with intensity, you burn fat and calories. Your metabolism will increase, and you'll continue to burn calories throughout the day, long after your gym session!

⚡️ GIVE YOU MORE ENERGY
Resistance training increases energy expenditure hours after training. A study published by the National Institute of Health suggests that this chronic increase affects energy balance and fat oxidation.

🦴 STRENGTHEN YOUR BONES
Osteoporosis occurs when bones become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of fractures. Resistance training has been scientifically proven to prevent or slow the development of osteoporosis, as it can improve bone strength and density.

😓 RELIEVE STRESS
Exercise is a great way to manage stress. Researchers have consistently found that those who regularly strength train tend to manage stress better and experience fewer adverse reactions to stressful situations than those who do not exercise. It can also improve memory and cognitive function in older adults.

If resistance training is new to you or a little daunting, consider hiring a Personal Trainer or joining a group personal training programme such as TrueFit Group Training. An experienced personal trainer can guide you through everything you need to know to reap all the above benefits over time!

Happy New Year! 🎊 🥳 What amazing things are you going to accomplish this year?

January always tends to be when people consider new starts, turn over new leaves and take time for some much-needed reflection and introspection to set the right tone for the new year!

I’ve been brainstorming and reflective-thinking over the last few days and trying to nail down what I would like to achieve in 2025. Here are my top 3 goals:

GROW MY TRUEFIT COMMUNITY
The first goal I have for 2025 is to grow my TrueFit community. TrueFit () is a group training biz that I co-own. It already has a successful and thriving community. However, I’d love to see even more sessions added to our timetable and grow my team. It’s an important goal for me because TrueFit will become my legacy. When I stop coaching, TrueFit will continue to help more people get fit and stay strong. It will help more coaches and personal trainers start and maintain a fitness career. It will hopefully outlive me. Haha 😂 I feel sentimental saying this! How do I plan to accomplish it? We already have an excellent retention rate - our members love working with us, but we need more visibility so that non-members can find us easily.

INCREASE MY SLEEP
The second goal I have for 2025 is to get 8 hours sleep on average. Sleep is something I’ve been working on for a while and for the past couple of years I’ve been hitting 6-7 hours a night (which is such an achievement compared to my pre-pandemic 5-6 hours). It’s time to aim for the next milestone. Sleep is important because it helps me handle stress better. In fact, more sleep makes most things better: my training, my day, my mood!

STAY INJURY-FREE
The third goal I have for 2025 is to stay injury-free! Since 2021, I have racked up a series of injuries. I'm finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel in terms of recovery. If I am consistent with my training, then stronger muscles should mean fewer injuries.

I would love to hear what goals everyone has set themselves and how you are getting on with achieving them. Comment below 👇👇👇 and do let me know if I can help in any way.

I know, I’ve been a bit rubbish at posting lately! 🤦🏻‍♀️ Time to turn that around. Just wanted to share that I've written a new post on my website about fuelling your body after a workout. After training, to maximise results ⚡️ you need to give your muscles the right nutrition to recover and replenish energy for your next session. How many of you consider what you eat post-workout? If not, have a look at my latest article – I'll pop the link in comments! 💪✨

It has been an incredible month diving deep into the world of fitness and media, a passion close to my heart. Collaborating with renowned publications has not only allowed me to share my expertise and love for the subject but also boosted my visibility 🌟

I had the honour of working with two fantastic titles for the first time – The Telegraph and Marie Claire UK 📰💫

In The Telegraph, I contributed to a health calendar feature, focusing on monthly activities and habits. My section for ‘May’ was all about lifting weights where I discussed the numerous benefits of resistance training. This special feature graced both digital and print editions and even made it to the newspaper’s cover! 🏋️‍♂️📆

With Marie Claire, I served as a fitness expert for not one, but two amazing articles. The first piece titled ‘I've been stretching for ten minutes every day for a year - and I've never felt better’ delved into the benefits of stretching while distinguishing between dynamic and static stretches 🤸‍♀️💪

The second article '7 most effective standing core exercises to try at home – not a crunch in sight', highlighted core strength exercises that don't involve traditional ab workouts while explaining the importance of strengthening our core muscles💥

A big thank you goes out to Polly and Anna for involving me in their wonderful articles. You can find links to each piece under comments - make sure to give them a read! 🙌
