The Maroons hosted BJFF Blades on a wet Saturday morning. The pitch was looking in good shape with the grass considerably shorter than the other pitches. Perhaps the pitch is more sheltered from the sunlight compared to the others...

The two teams battled well in an evenly matched first half. The Maroons started strongly but the Blades gradually got into the game more. Both teams missed chances and the score could have been much higher.

The second half continued in the same manner. Both teams were creating chances but the Maroons struggled to get the ball moving and final decision making was a little off today. What the boys lacked in composure and final ball, they certainly made up for it in desire and commitment. Credit to BJFF as well, it was a similar story for them.

Overall, a great game of football and a game played in good spirits with some of the boys knowing each other from other activities.

Football is back!

The Maroons hosted Clifton Rangers Stingers in the first game of the season.

Started with a respectful minute applause to remember Andy from Kirkham Juniors who recently sadly passed away. The minutes applause was respected perfectly by both teams.

The Maroons started strongly and looked lively. After a summer break, you never know what to expect but they looked like they had never been away. The pressing and willingness to get the ball was there for all to see. There was lots of quality on the ball too with some great build up play.

The second half was the complete opposite of the first with lots more goals from both teams. Credit to Clifton Stingers who had a really good spell in the second half and made it difficult for the Maroons. The Maroons finished the game strongly and regained some control.

Both teams were fantastic with lots of great goals. You couldn't ask for more in the first game of the season.

Player of the Match today went to Frank for his two goals and relentless effort defending from the front.

Special mention to Ralphie as well who unfortunately wasn't able to play today. Thoughts are with him and we wish him a speedy recovery.

The summer tournament season is now over for the Maroons and what a rollercoaster! The schedule has been pretty hectic so big thank you to the parents who have witnessed the highs and the lows and travelled far and wide.

The boys have been fantastic and will have learnt so much. It's been great seeing them grow and dealing with adversity which was a challenge in the first few tournaments! To finish strong is a huge testament to all the players and it will serve them well going forward.

Onto the new season!

Another weekend, another tournament. The venue was Middleton and Overton who were great hosts and put on a fantastic event.

The Maroons won all their group games scoring 19 goals without conceding. The knock out games were all hard fought games and credit to those teams. The final against Soccer HQ was a very close game but the Maroons edged it to win their second tournament in a row.

All the boys gave it their all and ran out deserved winners.

The Maroons travelled to Stanley Park this evening to play a newly formed Wren Rovers Whites U9 team. They were great hosts and provided a good test for the Maroons.

The first half was end to end and a really enjoyable match. Every time the Maroons looked to be in control, Wrens hit back.

The second half was a bit more one sided but neither side were ever comfortable which is a credit to both teams.

Definitely some areas to work on but overall, a decent performance from the Maroons. Rafe was solid in goal but also got it spot on with his distribution. George was often in a two v one and once again provided the platform for others. Teddy was superb in both boxes but especially his finishing tonight. Absolutely clinical and lost count how many he scored. It was a real all rounder performance from Rafi. So often doing the dirty work and helping out the defence. Plenty of assists and a couple of goals too. Ralphie's work rate was very good and it was pleasing to see him know when to cover positions if that player had gone forward. Some great link up play too. Frank worked his usual socks off and scored a couple. Would have scored more but a bit too often the final ball to him was lacking. Also covered in defence when George was off the pitch.

Well done Maroons and good luck to Wrens with their new team.

It was another Tournament for the Maroons this morning in wet and windy Ulverston. Thank you to Ulverston for being great hosts. Despite the conditions, there was a lot of great football on show and it was played in great spirits.

It was 6 v 6, so something different to think about. The Maroons were brave playing with only one defender and it did take a couple of games for the boys to get used to it. The Maroons stormed the group in the end winning all five games and scoring 19 goals in the process with only 1 goal against. There were some great team and individual goals. Special mention to Ralphie for his excellent (and important) bicycle kick and also Teddy's free kick then went right in the top corner.

The boys continued the good football in the semi final winning 7-1 (I think!) and another final awaited. After recent final defeats, the pressure was on to see this one through. When the opponents in the final equalised, the Maroons manager was hoping for a positive reaction and he wasn't disappointed. The boys scored another three goals to win the final 4-1. The boys were delighted and they enjoyed the celebrations.

Every player today stepped up and were on top form. Rafe is growing in confidence every game and looks to be really enjoying that sweeper keeper role. Made some great saves too. George grew into the tournament and was superb in the knockouts both in defence and driving forward. It was inevitable there were going to be 2 v 1 situations with the Maroons playing an attacking lineup but he was there to mop up everytime. Rafi was a constant threat down the left and was a big help to George in defence. Even with a bigger pitch, you wouldn't know as his work rate and quality were exactly the same. Ralphie had the hardest job today as he had to learn a new position in centre midfield. In the first couple of games, he naturally went forward but by the end, he was positionally sound and was able to help both the attack and defence. Teddy was his usual self. Fantastic feet and dribbling when driving forward and always ready to help the defence. A couple of worldies topped his day off. Frank was a real team player in the first few games, linking up play and crossing for others. As the tournament went on, he also got plenty of goals for himself too.

The Maroons entered a tournament at Preston City on Saturday and once again so close but yet so far!

The boys played some fantastic football throughout the day but eventually lost in the final to a team they beat 4-0 in the group stage.

Despite the disappointment of losing the final, the boys can be proud of their efforts and they received many plaudits from other managers and the organisers.

Thank you to Preston City for hosting. Onto Ulverston on Saturday to try again!
