YMCA Whites 1–3 St Anne’s Yellows

YMCA Whites put in a strong team performance against St Anne’s Yellows, with the match finishing 1–3.

From the opening whistle, YMCA Whites showed great teamwork and communication across the pitch. The players worked hard for each other, moving the ball well and creating some good opportunities going forward.

Despite going behind, the team continued to battle and showed plenty of determination. The communication between the players was excellent, with everyone encouraging each other and working together both in attack and defence.

YMCA Whites managed to get on the scoresheet and continued to push for an equaliser, but St Anne’s Yellows held on to take the win.

Although the result didn't go YMCA Whites' way, there were plenty of positives to take from the game. The great teamwork, communication and effort shown by the players were particularly impressive.

Match round-up for our Tangerines 2nd game of the season away vs Thornton Cleveleys Vikings

That was a pretty even, competitive, well fought out game of football. So credit to all involved today.

First half we pulled the short straw and had the wind in our faces, and as a result found ourselves having to play more defensively for the first 10/12 minutes or so. But to everyone’s credit they did very well. I’m sure MB and HL will go to sleep tonight with the phrase ‘Watch the bounce’ ringing in their ears! Apologies but no harm in reminding them!

Once we weathered the Thornton attack and got to grips with the wind, I thought overall we had the better end to the first half and created a few half chances, but just couldn’t quiet get that clear cut one. To their credit the Thornton keeper played a good ‘sweeper’ role and snaffled up any slightly overhit through balls.

Second half, we had the benefit of the wind and started very brightly, but then got sucker punched by a Thornton counter attack. Our players are adamant the ball went out of play for a throw in, but it wasn’t called, Thornton put a couple of good passes together and slotted home for the opener. Lesson to be learned there in playing to the whistle.

However despite going 1-0 down, they all kept their heads up, and played some nice passing football and again created a couple of half chances, but again just didn’t have that decisive finish.

We kept up the effort and a good clearance from GB, made its way to HP, who put a lovely ball through for MK to give him some space to apply that killer finish. Excellent goal 1-1.

The remainder of the half was fairly even, we had a couple of good chances but then so did Thornton which we had to defend well.

All in all 1-1 was probably a fair result, but on another day we might have managed to find that winner.

Any away game in the league is going to be tough, so to be unbeaten after two is a great start to the season.

With regards to the player of game awards, again could have gone to several for their efforts today, specific shoutout to MK. He was a constant threat, and given he’s nursing a toe injury played an excellent game and took his goal really well.

But

Defensive Player of the Game - KH - whether midfield or defensive he doesn’t give the opposition any time on the ball, closes them down in an instant and then has the physicality to more often than not win the ball back and turn defence into attack. 👏🏻

Attacking Player of the Game - AG - Two really solid games to start the season and he’s added an extra dimension and calmness to the midfield. Played with control today and made some excellent progressive passes to put us on the front foot. 👏🏻

Added bonus is that we didn’t get too wet.

Another great game for the Blues today, coming out 4-3 winners against St. Anne's Blacks. A very close game throughout, a game that has everything, last ditch tables, crossbars hit, posts hit and end to end throughout. Some great performances again throughout the team. Really proud of the effort and hard work they all put in today. Special shot out to the boys who played in defence though, to quote one of their players "I can't get them off the ball".

One or two areas to develop on decision making in crucial moments but they're getting there together as a team.

YMCA u13'sWhites – Post-Match Report
A fantastic effort from the YMCA Whites U13s today as they took on Freetwood Gym U14 side in a challenging match.

Although the final score didn’t really reflect the performance, the boys can be incredibly proud of their efforts. They showed great teamwork, determination and character throughout the game, competing against a bigger and older team.

There was some excellent football played, particularly out on the wings, where the boys worked hard to create space, move the ball forward and put pressure on the opposition. The midfield also deserves a special mention for their energy, passing and ability to keep fighting for possession.

Most importantly, the team stuck together, supported each other and kept working right until the final whistle. For a new team playing up an age group, there were plenty of positives to take from the game.

A great start to the season for the Blues running out 3-0 winners over Poulton Myrmidons. A very close first half ending 0-0 meant everything to play for in the second. The half time team talk must have worked as we scored straight from kick off! Frazer C made the goal with a blistering run through the middle to set up Zach G for his first of 2 goals. Frazer then finished the scoring with a battling third.

This win was even more impressive as we've not had much opportunity to train in the build up to the season. As ever, fantastic support from parents and huge thanks to our sponsors Beaverbrooks, Cuffe and Lacey and Spar.

Welcome back to YMCA Tangerines updates!

First game of the season away vs Kirkham Reds

Brilliant result and a superb team performance.

We know the opposition in L2 will prove to be quality all year, but right from the first whistle we competed with everything Kirkham threw at us. The message before the game was less about technique and more focused on putting the effort in and playing for a teammates, which they all took on board brilliantly.

The team shape and positioning was really good to see, it’s something we have been working on developing over the past couple of seasons and that game was a showcase of their team development to this point.

Defensively, we were really solid all game which gave us a platform to build our attacks from and after a few close chances the deadlock was broken by MT after a lovely through ball from WH played him into space and he slotted home calmly.

The lead was soon doubled, again by MT showing off his finishing, but the passing and assist from MK was just as good to get him into space.

We rode our luck a little bit towards the end of the first half, and some excellent blocks from TE and E.I, along with solid defending from MB🔵 and MB🟣 kept Kirkham at bay.

HT 2-0

The second half was a bit closer and Kirkham kept coming at us, so we had to remain focused and disciplined, which we did and managed to stifle the majority of the Kirkham attacks, but again defensively we were excellent. We had a couple of opportunities on the counter attack which would have put the game to bed, but we just couldn’t find that third goal.

Overall amazing result and everyone should be really proud of themselves.

With regards to the awards this week, genuinely anyone could have won one, and it was a proper team win.

Shoutout for MB 🟣, any game at any level where you keep a clean sheet should be applauded and she was excellent today.

Defensive Player of the Game - MB 🔵 ‘The Ice Man’ - Absolute rock at the back today and led the defensive line brilliantly, never afraid to get stuck in with a tackle or header, but was calm and composed when on the ball to allow us to push up the pitch 👏🏻

Attacking Player of the Game - MT - two excellently took goals as a result of him using his pace and power to get in behind the Kirkham defence. Was a constant threat all game and kept Kirkham on the back foot. Great captains performance.

Thanks as always for the support. Feels good to get a win on the opening day of the season.

YMCA Whites Under-12s – End of Season Report

As we bring another fantastic season to a close, it is important to reflect on what has been a memorable and highly successful year for YMCA Whites Under-12s.

This season presented a unique challenge as the team stepped up and competed a year above their age group. Taking on older and more physically developed opponents every week required determination, resilience, and a willingness to learn. The players embraced that challenge brilliantly and should be immensely proud of what they have achieved.

Despite playing up a season, the team produced an outstanding campaign, finishing second in the league. This achievement is a testament to the hard work, commitment, and attitude shown by every player throughout the year. Week after week, the squad demonstrated teamwork, character, and a desire to improve, making everyone associated with the club proud.

A special mention must go to our three commitment award recipients, Aron, James, and Austin. Their dedication to training, positive attitude, and willingness to give their best for the team have set a fantastic example for their teammates throughout the season.

Congratulations also go to this year's individual award winners:

Players' Player of the Year: Jonah – voted for by his teammates, recognising the respect he has earned through his performances, attitude, and contribution to the squad.
Manager's Player of the Year: Miles – rewarded for his consistent performances, hard work, and impact on the team's success throughout the season.
Most Improved Player: Seth – whose development and progress over the course of the year have been outstanding and thoroughly deserved recognition.

Finally, we would like to offer our sincere thanks to Oli for all of his time, effort, and commitment in managing the team. His dedication has played a significant role in the players' development and the success the team has enjoyed. While we are sorry to see him step down from his managerial role, we are delighted that he will still be around supporting the team from the sidelines. We look forward to seeing him cheering the boys on next season.

Well done to every player, parent, coach, and volunteer who has contributed to such a successful year. Finishing second while playing up a season is an incredible achievement, and everyone involved should be extremely proud.
