RAFT RACE CANCELLED – SATURDAY 29TH AUGUST
We’re absolutely, heartbrokenly (that’s a word) sorry to say that Saturday’s Lynmouth Raft Race has sadly had to be cancelled.
The forecast sea and weather conditions, and the way in which the launching of the rafts must happen this year, mean that there is simply no way for us to safely run the event. Trust us when we say we’ve explored options B through to Z, but safety has to come first, and unfortunately that means we just can’t go ahead. Boooooooo.
First and foremost, a huge thank you to all the volunteers who have already given up their time to help get everything to this stage, and to our FIFTEEN raft entries – you mad fools - we were absolutely delighted to have so many! We’ll be contacting all entrants individually to make sure the message has been received.
That also means that tonight’s flour bag packing is also cancelled – we know SO many of you were (absolutely not) looking forward to that! Again, thank you to those who had generously agreed to sacrifice your time – you may stand down.
There is, however, still something to salvage from the weekend! Lynmouth Shanty Crew will be at The Ancient Mariner from 8pm tonight for their final shanty sing-a-long of the month, and The Ancient Mariner had booked an amazing band tomorrow, so there’s plenty of opportunity to sing away your lack-of-raft-race related sorrows.
We’re disappointed not to be able to go ahead after all the work and enthusiasm that’s gone into it, but thank you to everyone who entered, volunteered, helped, shared and supported the event.
We’ll be back!
