Cricket update 🏏

Thank you so much to everyone who came along to the softball cricket taster session — we had great fun!

Unfortunately, we don’t have the capacity to offer regular softball cricket sessions in Lynton at the moment. However, if you really enjoyed it (or wanted to try but couldn’t make the taster session), there are plenty of ways to get involved with local teams nearby.

Huge thanks to Ann Marie from Devon Cricket who came all the way from Okehampton to teach us how to play, Alex the groundsman who always keeps an immaculate pitch, and Andy the club captain for letting us use this incredible ground! 🏏 We had a great time!

Fun fact I learned today — overarm bowling was actually introduced by women. Before that, everyone bowled underarm. But those big Victorian skirts got in the way, so they went overarm — and the men quickly caught on once they realised it gave more power.

This photo hangs in Lynton & Lynmouth Cricket Club, titled “Ladies Cricket Match in the Valley of Rocks, 1907” — and I can definitely see how underarm bowling would’ve been tricky in those skirts!

We might not have had the outfits, but we had the best time playing cricket on this iconic pitch today!

We have successfully raised the funds for next years court fees 🥰 Meaning we can continue offering our training sessions for free. In a world where everything has become increasingly expensive, we believe that fitness & friendship should come at no cost.

*5:30 PM* - “Bring Sally Up” squat challenge warm up followed by a relay race 😅

Activities will include:

- Skipping
- Sack race
- Ab rollers
- Hula hoops
- Running
- Shooting

*6:00 PM* - Netball with Robyn umpiring (4 x 8-minute quarters) ⛹️‍♀️
