Men’s Section Results

Sunday 7th June - Coronation Cup

This week we played one of most unique and fun competitions in our calendar, the Coronation Cup.

The on course competition is a Pairs Combined Stableford but then the fun really begins back in the clubhouse.

Overseen by our Master of Ceremonies, George Herbert, we then move into a knockout competition with pairings randomly drawn and matches played scorecard against scorecard until a team wins.

Once we hit the semi final stage, four chairs are assembled in the centre of the clubhouse, official scorers are appointed and the players go face to face for a place in the final.

After a series of tense matches we eventually saw the pairing of John Chalmers and Chris Sutcliffe overcome a stern challenge from local legends Gordy (grrrrr) Dale and Harry (one putt) Hutton to win the cup.

As always it was tremendous fun and a lovely break from the norm and a big thank you to George for the organisation.

Congratulations to Jon Shore on winning the Jim Worsley 'there's always the raffle' Trophy. Jon came in with 43 points on a day where the wind proved challenging to most but the rain stayed away for the duration of the match. Jon is fairly new to this sport that we love, and it's commendable that he is working hard to improve his game and lower his handicap before he has to buy a new trophy cabinet!

Congratulations to Ross Matthews (l) and Jon Shore (r) Winners of the Seniors Section June Monthly medals in Division 1 and 2. Ross shot a nett 64 whilst Jon shot a nett 63 on a day when the top 3 players in each division had their handicaps cut. Good golf guys!

Men’s Section Results

Sunday 31st May - Allamby Trophy (Under 60’s) & Veterans Cup (Over 60’s)

This week we split the field by age as we played a Stableford competition for either the Allamby or Veterans.

Leading the way in the under 60’s was Samuel Tough with a fine return of 40 points.
For the over 60’s it was Terry Palmer’s excellent score of 41 points that lead the way, well played gents.

Congratulations also to Ray Jenkin and Paul Griffiths for their NTPs at the 2nd and 14th respectively.

Congratulations to Chris Angell on winning the Harry Young Cup. Gross Strokeplay is the sternest test of golfing ability, that's why the professionals play it, and, on this occasion, the cream rose to the top. Chris came in with a 76, winning by 2 strokes from Steve Duckett.

Men’s Section Results

Sunday 10th May - Members Cup

This week saw the annual competition for the Members Cups with the Division 1 trophy going to the best gross score and Division 2 the best Nett score.

Taking the main prize with a gross 75 was Steve Holland and in Division 2, Gary Addcocks fine score of nett 66 secured the trophy.

Congratulations also go to John Chalmers and Martin Kirby for their NTPs on 11 and 13 respectively.

The Seniors Section played
for the Millennium Shield on Tuesday, hot on the heels of their 3½-2½ win against Wellow on the previous day. The Seniors remain unbeaten this season having won 4 and tied 2 but that may change next week with the tricky Isle of Wight tour!
The Millenium Shield was won by Mike Stevenson with 40 points just pipping Alan Milburn and the ever present Steve Duckett on 39 points.

Congratulations to Steve Duckett (l) and Dave Titchmarsh (r), winners of the Seniors Division 1 and Division 2 Monthly Medals. Steve came in with a net 68 and Dave with a net 65. Alan Clark won nearest the pin on the 2nd leaving himself 3 feet for the birdie putt and Alan Milburn shot a net Albatross 4 net 2 on the 3rd. As always, the love of the game and the camaraderie of the Seniors Section was evident throughout the morning and during the ensuing fines, raffle and announcement of the results.
