Flags of Fun for Junior Sailing!

The recent spell of unseasonal weather finally gave way last Saturday to a very welcome return of blue skies and sunshine, right on time for Junior Sailing's regular morning session!

With 22 Juniors, spread across 10 dinghies, the group sailed themselves down the main river towards Hurst castle.

Once there, two large buoys were laid for a game of 'capture the flag'; in short, all the dinghies followed a lead rib before being released to make for either buoy to capture the small removeable flag positioned on each buoy.

Whilst the helms worked hard on their speed and direction to approach the buoys, the crews then had the task of removing the flag - if they could reach!

As it turned out, the flag being out of reach wasn't necessarily a problem - fully committing and leaping out for the flag was surprisingly successful!

As the breeze picked up a gear, the group responded with great confidence and finished strongly even with an unusual beat back home as the wind veered - a great effort by all!

Thanks once again to all the parent support who help make these sessions, ashore and afloat.

KYC MEMBERS SUMMER BBQ - TICKETS ON SALE NOW!

We're delighted to announce that Alfresco Catering will be serving up a fabulous BBQ feast at our Summer BBQ on Saturday 4th July from 1.30pm, following on from the Commodore's Cup racing.

Enjoy a delicious 2-course meal, with full BBQ, vegetarian and pescatarian options available on the menu.

Tickets: £20 per person
Bookings close at 2pm on Monday 29th June

Calling all KYC members: Join us for a fun-filled evening with a summer beach theme*, garden games, Lego, and of course delicious pizza and dough balls!

It's been a while since our last Family Pizza Night, and we're excited to be back on Friday 12th June from 5.30pm. It also aligns with our Friday Club Night, so remember Happy Hour from 6pm - 7pm!

Tickets are still just £4 per person. Be sure to book by 2pm on Wednesday 10th June to secure your pizzas. We would also love to have a couple of volunteers to help with the distribution of the pizzas, if you can help, please sign up via duty roster.

Stivers and the Solent for Junior Sailing!

The recent spell of glorious conditions continued nicely on Saturday morning for the Junior Sailing group to take full advantage!

With unbroken blue skies and a light westerly breeze, the group of Zests and a Tera sailed off at a leisurely pace, down Hawkers, into the Little Hawkers and Stivers channels, and finally out into the open Solent again. Despite the light winds, the ebb tide of the Solent and a favourable wind shift to the southwest made for more sailing all the way back to the river entrance. The calm Solent also provided the time and space for some inter-boat activity - more wet than dry!

The end of the Spit then proved a perfect place to stop off and cool off, as well as collect shells, observe from a distance the bird eggs laid in the shingle, and search out other finds washed up recently on the shingle.

To complete the Keyhaven round-the-island, the breeze even held for a final sail back up the main river all the way to the slipway!

Another memorable Junior morning - especially well done to those who were venturing into the narrower channels and the Solent for the first time - and all the group who confidently and successfully kept their dinghies moving along in the lightest of breezes with barely any assistance!

A big thanks too, as always, to the parents ashore and afloat for supporting these children's sessions.

Friday 29th May marks the launch of our first Friday Club Night!

KYC members - gather your crew and kick off the weekend at the club with a great atmosphere, fantastic view, drinks and food.

Happy Hour runs from 6pm until 7pm with 50% off drinks*

Bowls of chips and cheesy chips will also be available to purchase from just £4.

Friday Club Nights will continue every other Friday throughout the season and we look forward to celebrating the start of the weekend with you all!

Pop Up Lunch with Jayne Rother - Sunday 31st May from midday:

Jayne will be back at KYC on Sunday 31st May with a special post-race pop-up lunch from 12 noon for members.

Expect a delicious selection of freshly prepared dishes — perfect for refuelling after racing or simply enjoying a relaxed Sunday lunch at the club.

There's no need to pre-order; just come along, order at the bar, and enjoy. Food will be served until 3pm.

Please note that this special pop-up menu will be the only food menu available on the day, with the usual light lunch menu not being offered.

Strong Tides and Warm Hospitality on the Yarmouth Potter - Tuesday 5th May

Despite grey skies and a lively Solent chop, 18 boats took part in this year’s Yarmouth Potter from Keyhaven Yacht Club. With a strong spring tide and testing conditions at times, the fleet made a successful crossing before enjoying a warm welcome from our friends at Yarmouth Sailing Club and a beautiful sail up the River Yar.

Following a relaxing stop ashore, the fleet returned safely to Keyhaven, supported throughout by our excellent safety boat crews and Officers of the Day.

A Big KYC Thank You!

We are incredibly proud of our members for coming out and supporting the walkers taking part in this year's Oakhaven Hospice Walk on Saturday.

A huge thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help distribute refreshments, encourage the walkers, and keep spirits high throughout the afternoon. We would also like to thank those members who answered the call and supplied plenty of cakes — both homemade and shop-bought — which were very much appreciated by all involved.

On the subject of cake, we do still have some shop-bought cakes left over, and we would like to sell these with all proceeds going to Oakhaven Hospice. Available options include cherry madeira, coffee cake, lemon Swiss roll and fruit cake, to name just a few.

Please do pop in and see us if you would like to make a donation and take home a cake in support of this wonderful local charity.
