Gary spent 39 years as a heavy smoker, doing physically demanding work, and telling himself that was enough. It wasn’t until a simple afternoon in the garden became a struggle that he admitted something needed to change.

He wasn’t just looking for a gym for himself. He was looking for somewhere his wife would feel safe and comfortable. Then an Isaac ad found and spoke to him.

From the moment they walked in, it just felt right.

Now he’s training four times a week, putting on weight for the first time in his life, and feeling the healthiest he’s felt in years.

“I am no longer ashamed of being underweight and unfit. Because I’m not like that now.”

Had two members say the same thing to me this week, completely unprompted. It stopped me in my tracks - because it’s not something you see talked about much in fitness.

We obsess over the physical results. But for a lot of people, the thing that keeps them coming back isn’t how they look. It’s who they become.

The training is an hour. The person it makes you is the other 23.

This is the one we hear more than any other. Not ‘I got stronger’ - most people believe that’s possible.

It’s the ‘more than I ever expected’ part.

The bit where someone realises they’d quietly written off a version of themselves before they’d even given it a proper go.

Three months of twice-weekly PT. Stronger. More energy. Different expectations for what’s next.

That’s what coaching actually does - it closes the gap between what you think is possible and what you’re actually capable of.

Some events just belong on the calendar. One of these is in Cornwall - we’ve been going every year since 2019 (Only covid stopped us) and every time it delivers.

There’s something about seeing/taking the Fortitude community out of the gym and into a proper weekend away that brings the best out of everyone.

The performances, the progress showing up in places people didn’t expect it, the laughs.

It Means More.

This week alone, three things were said to me that had nothing to do with sets, reps, or how anyone looks in the mirror.

A lady told me she ran in a session for the first time in ten years.

Another told me how easy she found her gardening this year - and how impressed her husband was watching her move around the garden like she used to.

And one of our members, who has quietly been doing some of the hardest work of their life, told us they are now four stone down - but that wasn’t the win. After years on antidepressants, they told us they have found genuine confidence in themself for the first time in years. And no longer needs them.

I don’t share these to sell anything.

I share them because this is what I actually believe training is for. Not aesthetics. Not performance metrics. The person who can get back in their garden. The person who ran again. The person who found themselves again.

That’s what real coaching inside a supportive environment of likeminded people creates. People who genuinely want to see each other win.

It means more. That’s why we do this.
