Fished an open match on one of my favorite venues saturday, holmes farm, market harborough. 16 fished and we had a rover. I picked peg 15 because it had a nice chuck to the island. I was told to chuck to the right of the island between two scraggly looking bushes as there was a bit of calm water there, now i'm not the best of casters even on a still day so the fact that we had very blowy weather that was going from left to right with 5 foot waves lashing at the keepnets didn't exactly help. So i took the easy way out and opted to fish in front of me about 3 quarters of the way across and about half way across. So i had 2 easy lines to fish.did try the pole but could not hold it in the wind. I did try once or twice to get to the calm spot, hit the bush on the first try and had a carp of around 8lb the second try, could not realy get my ics feeder where i wanted it so gave it up as a bad job. I know i should have persevered with that line but as it was only the second time out with my new Preston Tyson rod and Inertia reel i did not want to push it. All in all i had a really enjoyable day even though i got wind rash lol. Fished an ics 30g method feeder, preston 8lb sinking feeder main line with a guru kaizen 18 to guru 0.13 hook length. Used swim stim green and dark on the feeder and dead red on the hook. I had 4 fish for 28lbs and came fifth. I feel if i had stuck it out casting to the difficult part of my swim ( like i was told to do lol ) i would have been in top three. Next match is saturday, maybe i will do what i'm told this time lol. That Tyson rod (10 ft feeder ) is fantastic the new inertia reels aint bad either Stay young and go fish
