377 yards named after the most southerly Munro, Ben Lomond, in front of you as you tee off.

The name Ben Lomond comes from the Scottish Gaelic meaning 'beacon mountain'. The term 'Lomond' is derived from the Brittonic word llumon meaning beacon.

“This means everything to me. I never thought I would ever win it.”

One of our own, Greg Mclellan has become one of Scotland’s finest amateur golfers. He has been crowned the 2026 Scottish Men’s Amateur Champion, following a magnificent victory at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.

Greg, like many other golfers, never imagined that one day his name would be etched on this legendary trophy among champions such as Colin Montgomerie, Stephen Gallacher, and Robert MacIntyre. However, following a brilliant run to the final which included impressive match play victories over 2024 champion Alexander Farmer and Scotland international Ross Laird - Greg secured the title with a hard-fought 3&2 victory over Scotland Boys' squad member Aidan Lawson.

Reflecting on his achievement, Greg described winning the Scottish Men's Amateur Championship as "mind-blowing" and said it was a victory for ordinary golfers who simply play for the love of the game.

Everyone at Loch Lomond Golf Club extends their warmest congratulations to Greg on this remarkable achievement. It is a wonderful reflection of his talent, dedication and humility, and we are immensely proud to have a Scottish Amateur Champion as part of our team.

As exam results are being distributed to individuals across the UK, Giovanna, one of our dedicated team members, has shared with us her story after leaving school.

Giovanna began her career at Loch Lomond Golf Club as a summer temp through the refer-a-friend scheme 4 and ½ years ago. Since leaving school, she has expanded her skill set at the Club through a variety of techniques. Gio has thrived at the Club even while attending university where she is studying International Business, French & Spanish. She is now taking some time off from university and has not determined when she will resume her studies. When asked about working in hospitality and building her skills, Gio remarked,
"Take advantage of opportunities…there are constantly different ways to progress."
She has worked her way up from a temp position to Assistant Floor Manager in our F&B division at the Club, is trained as a First Aider and in 2025 was recognised as our Employee of the Year.

We asked Gio whether she had any advice for students leaving school and receiving test results.
"The best piece of advice is that you have so much time; there's absolutely no rush. I'm taking a year off from university and considering taking another. There's no pressure to accomplish what you believe you need to do; you can discover something else you want to do [during the process]. Don't feel rushed to figure everything out right now."

Weiskopf Cup

The Weiskopf cup was inaugurated in 2025, as our lasting memory to Tom Weiskopf who said the Loch Lomond course was his lasting memorial to golf. When the Loch Lomond golf course opened in1993 it was the first course designed by an American architect.

For Tom Loch Lomond was a personal passion project; he dedicated extensive time to be on site to see the project through and allow him to manage every single detail of the course. Tom always had a reason for doing something, such as creating 73 bunkers to marry with 1973, the year he won The Open Championship.

Tom designed the course to provide golfers an 18‑hole journey, carefully crafted to challenge and reward, set against the backdrop of natural beauty which is Loch Lomond - it is details like those that make honouring Tom easy.

In 1773, the Colquhoun's were set to move into their new residence on the Loch. Lady Colquhoun had hesitations about moving from the castle to Rossdhu House; she is believed to have burst into tears expressing to her grandson that the castle had always been her 'lucky hole'.

I wonder whether our Members and guests have had similar sentiments...
