Match Report | Lurgan Town U19s 5–6 Annagh United U19s
In what can only be described as a mad game, Town came out on the wrong end of an 11-goal thriller.
Town simply didn't start the game and found themselves 1–0 down after just 90 seconds. It was a very poor start and something that needs to change going forward.
Town eventually settled and began to get on top, creating several chances before Ellias O'Neil finished off a great team move to level the game.
More chances came and went before Annagh struck twice in quick succession to make it 3–1. Once again, Town battled back, with another two goals from O'Neil completing his first-half hat-trick and sending the sides in level at 3–3.
After some strong words at half-time about starting games with the right attitude, Town unfortunately had the opposite response and conceded twice early in the second half to trail 5–3.
But once again, Town dug deep. The outstanding Ellias O'Neil struck another two goals to bring Town level at 5–5, taking his incredible personal tally to FIVE goals. 👏⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽
The game then took another twist when centre-half Rylee Jordan picked up an injury. With no substitutes remaining, Rylee had to go in goal, while goalkeeper Nelquinho Pereira, who was making his debut after stepping up from the U17s, moved up front.
Annagh eventually grabbed the winner with a strike from outside the box, and this time Town couldn't find another response. A late red card summed up what was ultimately a very disappointing day.
Plenty to learn from, particularly about starting games with the right intensity and attitude, but huge credit must go to Man of the Match Ellias O'Neil for an outstanding five-goal performance. 👏
Also a special mention to Nelquinho Pereira on making his debut after stepping up from the U17s. 👏
