Private and Small Group Training and Study available. Martin ONeill Full Instructor. Jeet Kune Do is the martial art founded by the late Bruce Lee. Jeet Kune Do uses the mechanics of the human body to their fullest extent bearing in mind that each body is unique and different. Jeet Kune Do builds accuracy, agility, speed, rhythm, sensitivity, smoothness, flexibility and dynamic power. Jeet Kune Do

is also often referred to as scientific street fighting. This is because of the emphasis on real world self-defense. There are no competitions, no forms / kata’s, nor uniforms. We train in shoes and loose clothing. Jeet Kune Do is designed for defending against an aggressor with economy of motion, deception, speed and explosive power through correct body mechanics.

Awareness and avoidance of danger
By using your common sense and gut instincts you will be able to keep yourself safe most of the time. However, learning about verbal de-escalation and avoidance as well as counter tactics builds your confidence and gives you the tools to protect yourself and your loved ones in dangerous situations.
It must be said that there are no 100% self-defence solutions – they are for the movies. Reality is different and as instructor Marc Mac Young says:
Einstein's Law of Reality E = Sh*t Happens

Sometimes life throws a lot of bad things our way and just when you think that it's over, it sometimes gets worse. Just deal with it one piece at a time and things will usually improve.

Use common sense to keep trouble at bay
Visualise potential problems in advance and take steps to avoid them. For instance, parking your car in a place that has lots of cars during the day but is deserted at night when you return will leave you vulnerable. Muggers and opportunists are waiting around these places to strike. Be aware of these little things as they could save you a lot of problems.

Taking a shortcut off the main track may lead you right into the path of the bad guys waiting for easy prey. Watch some wildlife documentaries and see how predators operate in the jungle, because muggers do the very same things in an urban environment.

If you go to places that are edgy or dangerous, or hang around with people who go looking for trouble then expect to find it.
At the start of an evening you and your friends may be in great form. But as the evening progresses – and as alcohol or drugs changes people and lowers their inhibitions – they may say and do things that they would not normally do. This is when trouble and fights occur and a petty childish remark or sleight can get someone badly hurt.

Drink and drugs lessen your awareness and assessment skills. The chances of risk-taking increases. Be careful if you're drinking to not walk around the street like a “buck eejit” as you can meet trouble. A good option is to book a taxi in advance to get you home as wandering around the streets looking for one late at night can be dangerous.
