At the weekend, sensie had the chance to train with Maestro Claudio Artusi from Italy 🇮🇹 (10th dan wako ryu ju jutsu), kindly invited by DrominteeWadokarate Niwkr .
A great day of learning new techniques, throws, locks, pressure points, some weapon work/disarms, making new karate friends, contacts and having karate adventures. Plenty to bring back to the dojo.

Thank you to Peter at Dromintee Wado for hosting, and Keady JKF Wado Kai for being a great uke and guide on the day! Welcome to our dojo anytime and I know we will all train together again in the future.

Karate goes outside of the dojo and is about always learning, being open to new ideas, new learning, new friendship and new adventures. Always try something, and never stop learning!

🥋 SEIKŌ-YŪ CLUB UPDATE 🥋

For the next two weeks, our Wednesday classes will be led by our very own Sensei Carol O'Hare and assisted by Senpai Peter along with other members of our team.

It’s great to have such a strong team at Seikō-yū Lurgan Shotokan Karate Club, allowing training to continue as normal and giving our senior members the opportunity to step up, lead and share their experience. 👊

I know everyone is in very capable hands, so train hard, support one another and keep that Seikō-Yū spirit going! 🐯

18 on the dojo floor last night!! An incredible turn out!! Returning students, new trial students, new students, young and older training together and training HARD! Karate strong 💪 ❤️
Adults working on backstance and transitions, knife hand strikes, and using these for self defence.
Kids working hard on their blocks, timing, distance and basics.
Every single person working hard and enjoying their time in the dojo. This is what it is about!

Karate is for all, and our club welcomes everybody who wants to come and TRAIN with us!

Why white belt matters:

The white belt matters because it represents the courage to begin...

The black belt matters because it represents the beginning of deeper understanding.

Everything in between is part of the journey. 🥋

That is one of the reasons karate is so powerful. It teaches people that progress is not only about reaching a finish line. It is about who you become while you are working towards it. Funakoshi believed Karate-do to be a path of enlightenment and a way to seek perfection of character, never stopping.

For children, that means learning patience, resilience, and confidence.
For adults, it means discipline, humility, and long term/life long growth.

Wherever someone is on the path, the next step still matters. 👊

🥋 About Wednesday!
What a class on Wednesday night! 14 on the dojo floor working hard! 💪

After a warm-up from our brown belt (3rd Kyu), we focused on correct form in punching, body mechanics, moving fast and delivering accurate techniques. Proper kicking form was next, with all students enjoying some target practice and working on returning the kicking leg properly. 😀 Fun pad drills, elbow, knee and palm-heel strikes finished another brilliant 👏 session for our mixed class.

Then the adults were worked hard in our Adults & Teens class! Well done, every one of you!

Turning up and being consistent is key... that's it! Turn up, keep turning up, train hard and you WILL achieve your goals. 💪✨️

🏆 DOJO SPIRIT AWARDS 🏆
It was great to restart our Dojo Spirit Awards after a small hiatus!

⭐ Student of the Week — Evie:
This week's Student of the Week goes to Evie, our brand-new student. This is only her SECOND WEEK, and after her first class it was decided unanimously that she was a worthy winner!
She got stuck in, followed instructions, showed brilliant spirit and no fear, all while supporting others and making friends. Just what our friendly, community-focused local club is all about! Great spirit, Evie — well done!! 👏🥋

⭐ Student of the Month — Tony Kelly
Tony won our adult Student of the Month award for August.

Tony has returned to karate from a different style and has shown up consistently. He never quits, never complains, trains hard each week, trains at home, is always first to offer to help (and isn't shy about holding the kick shields! 😆), and is a great example and credit to our dojo, who we are and what we do.

Coming back to karate isn't easy — and coming from a different style is harder still. Well done, Tony!! 👏

It’s not all hard work! 🥋😄

On Friday evening, some of the Seikō-Yū senior team swapped the dojo for dinner and the dogi for our normal clothes and a well-earned night out at Zio in Portadown!

It was a great chance to relax, enjoy some good food, talk plenty of karate (of course! 😂), and spend time together away from training.

We also had plenty to celebrate — five fantastic months of Seikō-yū Lurgan Shotokan Karate Club, the growth of our dojo, and our successful first gradings in July.

A strong club is about more than what happens on the dojo floor. It’s also about friendship, teamwork and the people who help make it what it is.

Great food, great company and a great night. ❤️🥋
