NEW RECORDS SET AT BOTH ENDS OF THE ROLL UP SPECTRUM!

Despite the showery forecast offered by the Met Office, the 48 roll upers enjoyed the sunshine and they stayed dry! This week we saw some remarkable scoring at both end of the roll up spectrum. In Division 3 a huge congratulations to Andy Williams, playing only his second 9 hole round of the season, with a very impressive 27 points winning the division. Andy was over the Moon River with his performance! Paul Slattery was in good form too securing second place with Ian Bowkett just pipping Mark Trafford for the bronze position on the podium. In Division 2, Mark Bates produced a season's best performance with a magnificent 23 points beating Chris Davies into second place with 20 points. Leeton Fisher, of course, was on the rostrum too with 19 points, just knocking off Pat Collier and Anthony Griffiths with 19 points. The quality golfers of Division 1 found it challenging this week, but Paul Mear scored a solid 16 points to take top honours, just beating George Watton on the back 6 and Tony Roberts in third with 15 points.

The list for Lemon of the Week could easily fill most of this report, but here is the précised list and a new all time record low was produced. The 10 pointers included Gareth Morgan, Marcus Groom and Paddy Wilson. Wren Humphries, Michelle Apperley were close behind on 9 points each. However, the early departure of Kevin "Oh I've lost my card" Reeves didn't go unnoticed with his reported score of 6 points and running out of the clubhouse after recording a record equalling score of 4 points for 9 holes was BEN MORGAN. The Reeves/Morgan combo surely deserve the Lemon Hat, but they were not in the clubhouse, so the honours this week go to the ever present Dickie Bowen with a score he thought he got away with, but 8 points picks up the hat. Wear it with pride!

Nearest the pin went to George Watton and the card draw was won by Anthony Griffiths. James Humphries' birdie on the 6th was the only recorded score for the 9 ProV1's - well done to James!

The hugely popular raffle continues to offer entertainment for the members and this week Wren Humphries was in charge of pulling out the winning numbers. With cries of fix and there's chewing gum on his ticket, Malcolm Weaver won first prize. Anthony Griffiths made it a profitable night for him in second place, followed by Martin Oliver, Stuart Roberts, Captain Nick and Keelan Fisher.

Finally, the Member Draw for £140 was quite a boring event this week with nobody in the clubhouse on the list of possible winners. The first number out was a zero followed by a 9. The final number pulled was a 9, so the 099 winner was Wayne Barnfield . Wayne did not play and was not in the Clubhouse so it's a roll over next week and the total will be an impressive £150. You've got to present and played to win it!

A massive thank you to all the members who regularly support the Wednesday Night Roll Up. Week 11 next week so we are nearly half way! Come and join the fun - next week to celebrate the world cup getting underway with England Vs Croatia on the big screen at 9pm (be sure to stay and support) we have a World Cup themed sandwich evening with sandwiches from around the world, have a look at the menu below!

A BLUSTERY SUMMER EVENING DOESN'T STOP THE MEMBERS SIGNING UP FOR A BACK NINE SPECIAL!

47 members rolled up to play the back nine for the first time in this years Wednesday night extravaganza. The blustery conditions made it very challenging but a handful of players made the challenge look easy! In Division 1, Graham Clark took pole position with a creditable 18 points, followed by George Watton on 17 points and the ever present Lyndon Caldicott in 3rd on 17 points, losing on the back 6. In Division 2, Phil Roberts has bounced back from his time down under, shook off the jet lag and notched a fantastic 22 points. Returnee, Andrew Black proved that his months away from the course made no difference to his performance and with 20 points picked up the silver position. Back to back podium finishes for Mark Rogers, also scoring a brilliant 20 points, but just losing out on the back 6. Finally, in Division 3, Bill Luscott proved what a strange game this is by scoring 18 points to win having picked up the lemon hat last week! Mark Trafford stayed out of the semi rough this week to score 18 points and finish second, with Andy Williams making his seasonal debut in third place with a solid 17 points.

Lemon of the week, as usual, was a tight affair. Knocking on the Wood's door, Steve and Alex, both had 10 points but Alex had the only 2 of the evening and picked up 9 ProV1's. With the Woods on 10 points were Martin Oliver and Marcus Groom, but what a fitting way to play your last game at Ludlow before taking up the new exciting post of Assistant Pro in bonnie Scotland.......Tara Rodenhurst scored 8 points to pick up the hat. Wear it with pride across the border!

Shaun Parker won nearest the pin on the 14th and next week it will be nearest the 9th in 3 to pick up the prize!

So to the raffle. Members with orange tickets, which happened to be the majority of tickets in the bucket, felt aggrieved as every winner was a minority blue ticket! Here are the lucky winners; Ray Beddoes, Dan "yet again" Francis, Leeton Fisher, Andrew Black, Lyndon Caldicott and again Andrew Black! Thank you for supporting the raffle. The free draw this week stood at £130 and in another close encounter 3 regular Roll Upers had chances of winning the money. Sue Nichols and Della Weaver were in the 300's but did not play this week. Paul Slattery on 307 was in the room and played. His 13 points would have been multiplied by 10 if he had pulled out the 7 ball from the bag. So sorry to say that Paul pulled a 0 which meant that 300 was this weeks winner and that was Anthony Green. Next week the jackpot goes to £140, a tidy little sum if you play in the roll up and you remain in the Clubhouse for the draw.

Next week is yummy Asian Curry Night (See the menu below). Also, there's a bit of footy on the big screen as England take on Costa Rica at 9pm. See you all next week.

BAR-B-QUE NIGHT AT THE ROLL UP SEES SOME SIZZLING PERFORMANCES ON THE COURSE!

44 members rolled up this Wednesday in glorious sunshine, with a bit of breeze and a Bar-B-Que waiting on the return to the Clubhouse.

The highlights were in Division 2 where Tom Harrington produced an excellent 21 points and picked up the spoils. Close behind was Chris Hollis with 2 blob Dickie Bowen on the podium with a creditable 19 points. Honourable mentions go the Mark Rogers, winner of Division 1 with 18 points and building up to some good form following a recent knee replacement. Dane Pearce, yet again, produces a solid performance in second place, just losing out on the back 6. Harry Smith, resting over half term, was in third with 16 points. Finally, in Division 3 all 3 podium places had 18 points, with returnee Paul Slattery coming out on top with a better back 6 than Tom Ballard and Trevor Williams in 3rd losing out on the back 3. Some very good performances at the top end of the table but lower down things were no so good for possible Lemon of the Week contenders. Martin Nicholls, Marcus Groom, Ant Griffiths and the consistent Willem Vlok all mustered a credible 10 points each. However, there was a clear winner of the Lemon Hat this week and that was Bill Luscott with a snowman 8 points. Wear the hat with pride, Bill!

Nearest the pin on the 5th was a close affair with Dickie Bowen leading for a long time until Steve Wood masterfully put his 2nd shot to under 4 feet and rolled in for the birdie. The card draw was won by Ant Griffiths and this worked out to be £1 for every point he scored on the night! The person enjoying the highlight of the night was Tara Rodenhurst who birdied the 4th and picked up 9 x ProV1's. Well done!

So to the ever popular raffle. This week, and we hope his wife doesn't read this newsletter, the winner was Tony Dixon - Shh, don't tell anyone! Trevor Williams, Malcolm Weaver, Bill Luscott, Jonathan Price and Marcus Groom all picked up the minor prizes.

The member draw was yet again an interesting event. A new list of members was produced following new members joining and some people having not renewed as of May 27th 2026. The first number out was a 3, followed by an 8. This led us to a list of 10 members in the 380's and included Steve Wood who had played and stayed. With Steve needing a 5 for the £120 he was offered the bag to draw the final ball. He drew a 7 which meant OTIS HICKS 387 was this weeks winner but he didn't play and didn't stay so it's a roll over next week with a grand total of £130. Nobody likes to see that happen! In the words of Dale Winton, you've got to be in it to win it!

Thank you to all the members who regularly support the Roll Up. You make it a great night out to break up the week!

FEWER NUMBERS BUT QUALITY GOLF IS BEING PLAYED AS THE COURSE BEGINS TO FLOURISH!

As the weather starts to improve, the hard work carried out by the greens team is starting to show through. The Wednesday night roll up gang certainly raised a glass to the greens team with some outstanding performances this week. It's hats off again to Dane Pearce for a cracking 21 points and winning Division 1, with Les Underdown (20pts) scoring well both on the course and in the raffle! In Division 2, Trevor Williams bounced back after his winter hibernation and won with 21 points, just beating Dave Richie on countback. Keelan Fisher remained on the podium for the fourth week in succession. A good night for Roll Up stalwart, Lyndon Caldicott winning nearest the pin, finishing 3rd in Division 1 and scoring a birdie on the 4th to win 3 ProV1's. Gareth Morgan also scored a 2 on the 4th and won the other 3 ProVs. Nick Goosey, also out of winter hibernation, won the card draw and as for Lemon of the Week, well! Once again, a tight affair with Dave Rowley and Alfie Green on the fringes, but it was a close call between Ben Morgan who left early to watch the Villa, Andy Cooke who didn't want to be greedy and win it again and Marianna Senior who stayed for the presentation and was delighted to secure her first lemon hat with her solid 10 points!

The member draw for £110 was won by Roger Heath (092), who unfortunately didn't play and was not present in the Clubhouse, so the draw rolls over for another week and will stand at £120.

The raffle was again well supported with the Bar Boys - Sonny and Ryan picking up first prize, 2nd Dickie Bowen, 3rd Malcolm Weaver, 4th Les Underdown, 5th Trevor Williams and 6th Martin Oliver. Next week nearest the pin in 2 on the 5th, chosen by Marianna Senior - the lemon's privilege!

NEXT WEEK IS BAR-B-QUE WEEK - Fantastic weather on the patio, beer and buns, what more do you want?

Whilst the sun did shine on the 40 members playing in the weekly Roll Up, the cold wind and the occasional shower did have an impact on the scores.

Italian pasta night saw a Grande Prestazione from Division 3 winner, Mark Trafford. An impressive 22 points in those conditions indicates a significant improvement in performance or his handicap needs assessment! Nobody else got close to scoring 20 points. In Division 1 Tony Robert's eagle on the heavily wind assisted 2nd set up a solid win with 18 points and Keelan (we are watching you) Fisher notched another win in Division 2 with 17 points. As the scoring suggests, it was very challenging on the links of Ludlow on Wednesday night.

As for the Lemon of the Week, at one stage there were 13 contenders aiming to pick up the most coveted lemon hat. However, with Lesley (I've had a busy 2 days) Kennedy and Nick Goodwin fighting it out with 9 points each, in comes Pete Monk with a solid 8 points to pick up and wear with pride, the Lemon Hat. There are now 6 hats in circulation and we are planning a Lemon Hat bonanza on the last roll up night in September. Be prepared! Nearest the pin next week, selected by Pete, is the 4th.

Dane Pearce picked up the nearest the pin prize with an impressive second shot on the 3rd and he knocked the putt in for a birdie. With wife Claire joining the Freshers group for an introduction to golf on the previous Saturday, the feeling is that a formidable mixed partnership is there in the making.

Thanks to Mike Groves for his perfect card selection out of the pack, Malcolm Weaver won the card draw. So that leaves us with the raffle and the members draw. The raffle was won by Dan Francis, with Malcolm Weaver, Ian Bowkett, Sophie Norton x 2 and Ian Bowkett again picking up the final prize - Bizarre!

The members draw was very bland and lacking in excitement with nobody present in the 370's. If Jim Ball, Men's Senior Captain, had played and stayed in the clubhouse he would be £100 better off today! Nobody likes to see that do they? Next week it is £110 and the food theme is Chicken Night - curry, sweet and sour and so much more (see the menu below) it should be a supreme evening! Come and join us for a great night out.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEK BUT THE ROLL UP CONTINUES TO BRING THE MEMBERS IN!

Another great night at Ludlow Golf Club with 42 members enjoying the golf and hospitality at South Shropshire's Premiere Club. Excellent performances from the young star, Harry Smith (winning Division 1 with 20pts), Keelan Fisher(the handicapper is watching you!) and Gareth Morgan both with 20 points in Division 2 and in Division 3, Lemon Hat first ever winner, Tom Ballard has bounced back with 19 points and getting nearest the pin on the Par 3 4th. Lemon of the Week was disappointing in that the real lemons, Jake Wilkes(11pts Bk6 😎 and outright winner Neil Lewis(8 points) had both left the building! Therefore, the hat this week went to Andy Cooke, also on 11 points, but bravely stayed in the clubhouse! There was a remarkable feat in the two's sweep this week, with all the Smiths getting a bridie on the 6th. In addition, Jacob Chainey and Lyndon Caldicott birdied the 4th so the 9 balls were divided by 5 (1 ball each) and the other 4 enabled a ball draw and Tony Dixon, Captain Nick, Dickie Bowen and Alfie Green all picked up a ProV1.

The weekly raffle winners were; Captain Nick, Jonathan Price, Andy Cooke, Tony Dixon, Rob Richards and Neil Lewis(The proper Lemon of the Week)

The member draw, now at £90, was once again a close encounter with the first 2 digits in the three hundred and nineties. Two people were in the clubhouse - Steve Wood who didn't play in the Roll Up(not eligible) and Alfie Green(394), who did play in the Roll Up. Alfie drew the final ball, which was an 8, and that belonged to Richard Moreton(398). Richard did not play in the roll up and was not in the clubhouse, so the jackpot rolls over to £100 next week - see you all then!

A LITTLE REMINDER - PLEASE AVOID SLOW PLAY or LET THE GROUP THROUGH IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A BALL(3 MINUTES)

BLUSTERY WEATHER DID NOT AFFECT THE TURNOUT!

Despite the windy conditions, 48 members rolled up for this Wednesday's 9 hole competition. Three outstanding scores from Dane Pearce, Alfie Green and Keelan Fisher. However, at the other end of the continuum there were several members battling for the Lemon of the Week title. Jake Wilkes, Colin Hughes, Dickie Bowen and Matt bailey all scrapped through with 11 points. Tom Ballard, previous Lemon Hat winner, went close again with 10 points, together with Marcus Groom. This week the battle was between Leeton Fisher(Bk 6 = 8) and Les Underwood(Bk 6 = 7), both with 9 points. Les, who notched a 2 on the 4th(4points) won the hat on countback. Wear it with pride, Les! The ball draw was won by Angela Van De Stap. The card draw was picked up by Jake Wilkes and nearest the pin on the 3rd was magnificently won by our very own Gents Captain, Mr Nick Apperley. Next week nearest the pin will be on the 4th - chosen by Les Underwood!

The members draw for the roll over total of £80 was not won although it was a very close call again. With members names being randomised on the full list nobody can predict who is going to come out. This week the first two digits were 52 and the members who played and were in the clubhouse included, Alex Wood and Peter Monk. Peter pulled out a 4 and his number is 523 - nobody likes to see that happen, such a shame! The winner this week was Fourie Engelbrecht 524. It's a roll over next week - £90.

Thank you for supporting the Wednesday Night Roll Up. Always a great atmosphere with excellent food, good beer and a few laughs. Where else can you go for £4 and have such a good time?
