Great Yarmouth & Waveney Fencing Club

Great Yarmouth & Waveney Fencing Club Welcome to Great Yarmouth & Waveney Fencing Club. We provide an affordable and enjoyable way to lear We hope to see you fencing soon!

Welcome to Great Yarmouth and Waveney Fencing Club – the club that provides the East Coast communities of Norfolk and Suffolk the opportunity to experience the Olympic sport of Fencing. The club meets every Thursday night from 7.30 pm at Ormiston Denes Community Sports Centre, Yarmouth Road, Lowestoft, NR32 4AH. We welcome anyone aged 7+ and divide the club as follows: Musketeers (7 to 10), Junior

s (10 to 14) and Seniors (15+). Beginners’ courses run throughout the year in all sections of the club. We design our courses to be an affordable introduction to Fencing, with courses ranging between £25 and £37.50 for a 4 week block that includes your tuition, kit hire and insurance. Progressing from our beginners’ sessions you’ll go on to receive weekly tuition from our experienced coaches. All lessons (group and individual), as well as kit hire are included in your weekly subs, so there’s no need to rush out and buy your own equipment. Club nights consist of a mixture of structured coaching, individual lessons, on the piste exercises, free fencing, and our highly enjoyed monthly Ladder nights – which gives members a chance to compete against each other. Our coaching team consists of: Head Coach, Paul Stimpson (BAF Level 3 Foil, Epee & Sabre); Club Coach, Rob Johnson (BF Level 2 Foil, Sabre) who oversees the Junior & Musketeer sessions; Beginner’s Coach, Nathan Gull (BF Level 2 Foil) and Assistant Coach, Alan Johnson (BF Level 1 Foil). All of our coaches are always happy to help any member of the club from complete beginner to competitive level progress with their fencing career. Fencers from other clubs, or those re-joining the sport are always welcome to attend the club. Though Foil is our strongest weapon, we also fence Sabre and Epee. For convenience we teach all beginners Foil Fencing initially but following your course there are opportunities to learn Sabre and Epee. We have been running for over 40 years and throughout that time we have constantly strived to develop our club to provide the best experience for our members. Situated on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, our current membership comes from a diverse range of locations from Caister, Great Yarmouth and Bradwell to Lowestoft, Oulton Broad, Beccles and as far as Southwold. Whether you want to fence socially or follow in the footsteps of our past and present members, who've competed at local, regional and national level, we aim to offer something for everyone. In addition to fencing we also arrange a range of social events throughout the year. To join the club, or for more information you can contact the Club Chairman, Rob Johnson at [email protected] or phone/text 07516 675051.

**Natasha Capps-Jenner wins Bronze in Women's Sabre**

Congratulations to Natasha, who at the age of only 14 placed 3rd, winning the Bronze medal in yesterday's Norfolk Open Women's Sabre Event.

As the youngest fencer in the competition, Natasha was up against opponents whose fencing experience was greater than her age. Despite a nervous start, Natasha found her form, winning half of her preliminary poule bouts to put her in good standing for the direct elimination phase.

Natasha's won her first D.E. was against Carol Ashman of Cambridgeshire Fencing Club, placing her into the semi-final against Carol's club mate Alexandra Sapetschnig. Alexandra won the semi-final and went on to win the entire competition, placing Natasha 3rd.

The club & its coaches are extremely proud of Natasha's performance. It's been great seeing how she's progressed over the past year and we can't wait to see what comes next!

Congratulations Tash!!
