So we’re a week and abit away from the season ending. And it’s time to look that the championships, what’s been won and what’s still to play for.
Firstly the 17.5 class.
The new rush tyres have certainly made it alot better for the cars this season. More grip, and it seems more consistency. With a round to spare Tim Wood has wrapped up the championship in a nail bitter at the last round. Chris Lovely was the only other in contention with a round win, but unable to get the move done at the last round. Daniel Leonard has come on form with his awesomatix and mixing at the top.
Tim has been the class of the field this year. Only one round he suffers but with the help of his Schuamcher team has been on top most of the year.
The mini class has seen a small number of drivers. Harvey Greenfield returned with the intention of getting the championship under his belt. And he did so in empathetic fashion. Taking wins at the four rounds he’s attended giving him the perfect score. Dad Dave sits in second in the chanpionship and is the only other driver to qualify for the championship. Could say Greenfield domination!!!
In the vintage class it has again like the mardave class been a smaller field. Nick Longmoor has been the class of the field, mixing it in the higher finals against more modern tech. We’d love to see what he could do with a more modern car. Nephew Sam looks to lock in 2nd in the class, Sam still learning his trade in the class. Rick Hellewell has made a relaxed return to racing, and placing in the final round of the series will see him 3rd in the championship
Our juniors have been a pleasure to watch this year. Watching them mature and get faster and get through the ladder into the higher finals
James Colebrook has been the class leader, taking four wins out of the five rounds he’s entered so far, the other being a 2nd in class. He’s been on fire and the extra club nights really helping him grow into a true racer.
The fight for 2nd with our juniors is between Sam walker and Lucy Dabb. Just one point in it between the two, Sam is hoping a return to form will help secure 2nd. But we can’t count our Lucy, she if a former champion of the series and luck hasn’t been on her side. But it will be interesting to see between the two.
One championship is left to play for this year and it’s tbe master category. Four drivers and three different brands of car. Peter Covell and his awesomatix sit up top, ahead of Schumacher pairing of Ross Smythe and Stephen Jones. Stephen finding his form with his mi9 just recently taking the class win in the last two rounds.
Throw into the mix Jay Kay, who looked to be steam rolling his way to victory, but the weather and other commitments mean we haven’t seen him the last two events. If he attends and can take the win then the championship will be his and his mugens
Either way it’s been a mega series, and we want got some this opportunity to thank all those who have supported it and sponsored the event!!
