Last weekend saw the Team KAR Honda Civic compete in the Trackday Champioship and the Trackday Trophy for the first time this season. Partnering Justin for the Sunday round of TDT was Club Racing UK racer Stefan Marsh, who’s never even sat in the typeR before, let alone race it.
In the Championship outing on the Saturday, Justin qualified P3 overall out of the 36 car field, with the car now being unofficially a class b runner and also ran on the toyo tyres so we could get an accurate account of where the car’s performance is.
Justin went straight into the lead of the race on approach into the first corner on the Donington GP circuit but as he ended lap one, he found an issue with the brakes and was forced to retire towards the end of lap 3. Video footage later shown that he left the handbrake on during the green flag lap. (Kin numpty)!!!!!
At least we took away a huge positive in that the car was now able to compete for outright wins. (In dry conditions)
Day 2 Trackday Trophy and welcome aboard Stefan.
The car was ready to go again with the brake issue being fully resolved.
The Trackday Trophy allows other tyres so the lads went for used AR1’s.
Stefan, with no type r experience ended his 12 minute qualifying session in P6 extremely impressive has he only actually got 2 clean laps, Justin jumped in the car and by the end of qualy the lads ended up p5 overall.
They decided to put the toyo tyres back on for the race, as the car felt better the previous day.
Justin started the race and went into second place by the first corner, chasing Will Heslop in Paul Mchughs civic cup car, Will had electrical issues and Justin took the lead on the approach to coppice, after 20 minutes they decided to make the mandatory pit stop, this proved to be a big mistake as 4 minutes later the saftey car came out giving those that hadn’t pitted a free stop, once the saftey car came in Stefan found himself in second position and put in several qualifying laps to chase the leading Golf GTI, the toyo tyres were a very poor choice considering what the rest of the field were using but ringing its neck never the less. During his rage try to catch the golf he unfortunately picked up a 5 second time penalty, for track limits, the chequered flag dropped and they were second on track but 4th after the time added on.
Overall the car was astonishing in comparison to last season and that’s down to the work from Motion Motorsport of Fenton, Stoke on Trent.
The lads next outing will be on the Silverstone international circuit, 16th October.
Stefan will again be joining Justin, for the Clubsport trophy.
