Taekwondo is a martial art which originates from South Korea, where it is the national sport. Taekwondo literally translates into 'the art of hand and foot'. It is practiced in over 200 countries around the world and officially became a core Olympic Sport at the Athens Olympics in 2000. Great Britain has had an amazing run of success in Taekwondo over the last decade including three medals in Tokyo . Since February 2024 our club relocated to our new full time academy at 10 Rectory Lane, Loughton where we are are able to offer our students a safe and professional training space that is fully matted with mirrors and equipment to help them achieve the most from their training. Our space also acts as elite training venue where athletes and coaches from around the UK are able to come together to train and share ideas and training methodologies. At the club we practise both the traditional aspects of Taekwondo, which include kicking, blocking, striking, self defence and destruction, along with the combative sport element, where students practice competitive Taekwondo in a safe environment. We also practice Poomsae which part of the traditional side of Taekwondo, puts the movements into a logical sequence and performed against an imaginary opponent. Poomsae is used as a benchmark of a students ability as well as also a competitive, performance based discipline where students can compete against others. All of the above is blended with a mixture of fun and fitnesss!
