Bretforton Ladies Hockey Club is a well established (1948) successful team, based in the Vale of Evesham, Worcestershire. We currently field two squads competing in England Hockey’s Women's West League. For our up-to date fixtures/results please click on our website link. In addition to this we have been successful in entering England’s Hockey Master National Competitions. In 2016 our O35’s team b

ecame finalists for the first time at the Olympic Park in London. With a taste of what was possible we created an Over 45's squad, playing all over the country in the competition to being finalists at Lee Valley Hockey Olympic Park, London, since; 2018(w), 2019 & current champions in 2020! We are always looking for & very much welcome new players, match officials and supporters to join our friendly club. Whether its to meet new people, get fit or get back into the game, we have something for everyone. We are a vibrant fun-loving club enjoying time on the pitch as well as socialising off the pitch (often in fancy dress!). Final game of the season for the 1s🏑
The 1s wrapped up their campaign at home against North Somerset Gryphons in a game that truly had a bit of everything!
After a very quick warm-up, Bretforton came out strong and looked dangerous in attack from the first whistle. The pressure paid off early, with the opening goal coming within the first 10 minutes.
North Somerset Gryphons weren’t going down without a fight though, and kept the game competitive throughout. It was one of those matches that ticked every box—green card for Alice, a yellow for the opposition, and even a bully-off thrown in for good measure.
A foot in the circle led to a flick for the visitors, which they converted, contributing to a tightly contested scoreline. Bretforton battled hard right until the very end and even won a short corner on the final whistle, but couldn’t quite find the equaliser.
Full time: 2–3.
Player of the Match goes to Lorna for a great performance, while the (dis)honour of Plonker of the Match goes to Vix for starting the game wearing her sunglasses 😎

Final game of the season for 2s 🏑

The 2s wrapped up their campaign with a home match against Colwall & Malvern.

It was a tough start, with the visitors coming out strong and putting us under pressure early on. They found the net after just 3 minutes and added a second around the 20-minute mark. Despite this, we began to settle into the game and started to play some really good hockey.

After a frustrating disallowed goal, heads stayed up and the hard work paid off when Ness pulled one back before half time. 1–2 at the break, with everything still to play for.

The second half was end-to-end, full of energy and determination. Hannah S found the equaliser with a well-taken finish, bringing us right back into it. We created some great chances but just couldn’t quite find the winning goal.

A big shoutout to Fi L in goal, who earned Player of the Match for some outstanding saves that kept us in it.

Last match of the season for the 3s 🏑☀️

Bretforton 3s wrapped up the campaign with an away trip to Lansdown 5s on a beautiful sunny morning—perfect conditions for a great game of hockey.

It was a strong start, with both sides evenly matched and playing some great hockey. Bretforton created several promising chances in the first half and showed real attacking intent, but couldn’t quite find the breakthrough. 0–0 at half time, with everything still to play for.

Lansdown came out firing in the second half and grabbed an early goal. Shortly after, Bretforton were unlucky to lose a player to injury, leaving them temporarily down to 10. Lansdown took advantage and added a second.

Despite the setbacks, the team showed fantastic spirit and determination—something that’s defined the 3s all season. A great game played in the right spirit and a fitting way to end the campaign.

Penultimate games of the season… time to make it count 👀
Fingers crossed the sun sticks around for another weekend of hockey ☀️🤞
The 1s and 2s are on their final away trips of the season — hoping for smooth travels, sunny skies, and even better results 🏑
Meanwhile, the 3s are at home for their LAST home game, so get yourselves down and show them some love 💗

Weekend Hockey Round-Up 🏑

1st Team vs Lansdown 3s
A home fixture and one of the standout performances of the season so far. The team worked tirelessly for each other, showing great cohesion and determination throughout.
Alice reacted quickest at a short corner, firing home to level the score at 1–1. Despite the strong effort, Hereford managed to find another gear and added three more goals, with the match finishing 1–4. A result that doesn’t quite reflect the quality of the performance.
Hannah was deservedly named Player of the Match for her tireless work in midfield, covering every blade of grass and driving the team forward throughout.

2nd Team vs Hereford
Hereford came out fast, scoring within the opening minutes. Bretforton gradually settled into the game, finding their rhythm and making it a much more even contest.
Trailing 2–0 at half-time, Abbey produced a brilliant goal to bring it back to 2–1 and give the team hope. Bret pushed hard for an equaliser, but Hereford managed to secure a third.
A special mention to Deb, who earned Player of the Match with an outstanding defensive display — proving her versatility across the pitch.

3rd Team vs Bourton & Sherborne
A tough away fixture in the heat saw Bretforton 3s fall to a 7–0 defeat. An early injury left the team with no substitutes, but the squad showed great resilience and work rate throughout.
Despite the scoreline, there was strong defending, positive attacking play, and constant encouragement across the pitch. With relegation now confirmed, the team can still take pride in their effort, attitude, and spirit.

O55s vs South Berkshire
A strong performance saw Bretforton secure a place in the Plate quarter-finals. The team played some excellent hockey, with Dani G scoring a superb goal from close range.
The game finished 2–2 in regular time, sending it to flicks. Vicky stepped up confidently and represented the team brilliantly, but Bretforton narrowly lost 3–2 in the shootout.
A hard-fought contest and a great team effort — plenty to build on for next season.
