Inspiring the Next Generation of Female Golfers
We kicked off our newest Women into Golf cohort last night with 12 enthusiastic participants. The evening perfectly blended sport and socialising, featuring a putting session, Prosecco, and nibbles.
The event was expertly led by Ed Martin and organised by Sue Maine and Bea Cotton. Mark Lawrence provided a very warm welcome and refreshments, while Madeline Ellis and Lisa Jackson offered moral support and advice.
Our new golfers also got a glimpse into their potential future at the club; Lisa Jackson shared her inspiring story of transitioning from a beginner to a full member. Welcome to the club ladies!

County Foursomes

At Melton. On a clear evening Rex Harrison and Dave Hagger along with Leo Harrison and Will Simpkin represented the club in the county foursomes. Great experience for the two juniors. Both matches were close throughout but both teams didn’t start well and eventually went down 3 down for Rex and Dave and 2 down for Leo and Will.

Big thanks for the President, Richard Barker and vice captain Mike Orchiston who came to support the teams.

Good luck to Melton Mowbray in the next round.

"On Monday the 8th, the Longcliffe Past Captains travelled to Willesley Park to play for the Friendship Trophy. With the weather forecast not looking good and travelling over in torrential rain, I thought we were in for a wet day. However, by our first tee time of 11:00 am, the rain had stopped, the sun came out, and it turned into a lovely day. After the first four games, the match stood at two games each, so it came down to our last pair, John Price and Paul Argument. They finished all square, so the match finished 2½ games each. Therefore, Longcliffe retained the trophy!"

Dave Vosper receiving the trophy from Willesley president David Elasm.

Longcliffe Scratch League Team 2026 – Proudly Sponsored by Tyrex and 360 Commercial Design

Thursday June 4th was our second home match of the season against Luffenham Heath Golf Club, and our 3rd match of the season. After 2 wins from two the team were confident of maintaining a winning start to the season.
In difficult windy conditions the games commenced with all the matches very close, with only a few holes left in each match the result was still not clear. As matches finished the overall tie was 3.5 v 3.5 with one match to finish on 18th. Adam Brind making his first appearance of the season had all eyes of both teams on him. A great chip and par on 18th halved the match and halved the overall result. – Longcliffe 4 v Luffenham 4
We remain unbeaten and look forward to our next match, the team that represented the club against Luffenham were….
(Richard Wells, Will Adamek, Adam Brind, James Pretty, Jason Dankenbring, Mark Lawrence, Andy Harding, Joe Hudson)

Our Next match is away to The Leicestershire on June 18th, and this will complete our mid-point of the season, with the reverse fixtures during July/August. – Our next home match is July 2nd against Kirby Muxloe Golf Club.
Thank you again to our supporters at home to Luffenham, President, Captain, Vice-Captain, Steve Harding, Harry Coe, Suzanne Pretty (Apologies if I have missed anyone)
If you’d like to know more about the scratch team, to play or support please feel free to contact me.

Sunday 31st May saw Longcliffe ladies play at Lingdale in the second round of the Academia national club competition. The team of Karen Bland, Kim Griffin, Bea Cotton, Jackie Rowe and Sue Maine played singles match play and met with a very competitive Lingdale team . Seniors Match Report by Rob Pollard

A mild though overcast morning, with threat of rain all day, greeted us and our visitors for our fixture.

The course, as ever, was well presented especially given the heat over the last week or so.

We fielded 16 players against the visiting team from Beeston Fields.

Our halfway house was manned by Dave & John, many thanks to them.

The rain held off in the main with just a few spots early in the back nine.

Winning match results for: -

Rob Pollard & Alan Wain - Won 2&1
Tim Porte & Roger Smith - Won 4&3
Steve Steel & Alan Miller - Won 6&4
Dave Camp & Alan Lawton - Won 4&2
Steve Furness & Steve Hathaway - Won 1 up

Result Longcliffe winning 5 to 3.

No contenders for Nearest the pin from either team.

After the match we sat down to a lovely meal, enjoyed by all, with many thanks to Matt, Paul and team.

Thanks too go to all players for supporting the team.

County Foursomes Match Report by Dave Mcpheely

On a bright but blustery Sunday morning, our Professional David Mee , with partner Steve Critchley took on Lingdale at home, in the County Fouresomes, always a difficult format.
The match was very tight all the way round , with Dave and Steve 1 hole down . However on the 17th Steve produced a brilliant chip and run to two feet from underneath the branches of the trees to the left of the seventeenth green to square the match, With par 4s up 18 the match went to the first extra hole, which Dave and Steve won.
A great battling performance, well done guys, we look forward to the next round.
