Thank a Greenkeeper Day - Tuesday 8th September

No matter where you play golf, greenkeepers play an essential role in delivering great conditions so that we can enjoy our time out on the course.

From early mornings to late nights, course managers and head greenkeepers lead teams of professionals dedicated to ensuring their golf course is the best it can be.
Their role goes well beyond the playing surface and greenkeepers work every day to ensure the sustainability of golf for future generations, while improving communities through the enjoyment, growth and vitality of the game of golf.
Utilising the hashtag , this dedicated day of thanks is a social media movement seen by millions of people across the globe and has a real impact on the working lives of golf course professionals. Gestures of support boost morale, increase job satisfaction and foster a culture of mutual respect.
We have a fantastic team here at Longcliffe, led by Michael who are totally committed to offering us the best golf course possible. Please show them your appreciation next time you see them on the course. The guys will be enjoying lunch in the clubhouse next week as a gesture of our thanks.

Lady Captains Day

On Tuesday 18 August, the Longcliffe ladies enjoyed a wonderfully mischievous Lady Captains Day. It was a day of naughtiness, with all the ladies dressing in denim defying the usual dress code rules!

Lady Captain Sharon kept everyone well looked after, serving delicious nibbles and fizz at the halfway house, which went down extremely well with all the ladies.

The celebrations continued into the evening with a fabulous dinner provided by Paul and the catering team, followed by lively music, entertainment and, of course, the all-important prize-giving.

The whole day was a great success, with plenty of fun and laughter along the way. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves, making it a Lady Captain’s Day to remember.

A big thank you to Captain Dave, Paul, the catering staff and everyone else who helped to make the day such an enjoyable occasion.

What a spectacular Lady Captain’s Away Day at Burton on Trent Golf Club!
We had 40 ladies join us for a fantastic, fun-filled day of golf under beautiful, sunny skies.
The course was in great condition, the food was absolutely delicious, and the club staff could not have been more welcoming or helpful.
It truly was a perfect day from start to finish!

President's Week

Thank you to all those who played during my President’s Week. The weather was exceptional as was the course despite being extremely hard and bouncy making it difficult to keep the ball in play.

Tuesday saw 55 Ladies take on the course, hopefully a glass of Prosecco and a slice of date and walnut cake helped them on their way. Sandwiches and Strawberries and cream rounded off their day. Well done to Julie Bowler who won with a creditable 42 points beating Ann Worrow with a better back nine.

On Wednesday a full field of 177 battled round and it was nice to meet you all at the halfway house for a buffet and a drink and to listen to your tales of woe. 13 hours at the halfway house passed very quickly.

Saturday was another busy day with over 160 competitors trying to beat the course. For many the highlight of the day was the barbeque and beer!

Finally, my thanks go to Sue for her help on Wednesday and Saturday. Sue was assisted by several ladies who kept the days running smoothly. Once again my thanks to all.

Longcliffe Ladies win the league - by Mel Walker

Longcliffe ladies scratch team won Division 1 of the scratch league with a convincing 5-1 victory over local rivals Lingdale. The team of Gabbi, Sarah, Scarlett, Joanne, Mel and Julie played some excellent golf on a lovely late summer evening. Wins for Gabbi, Sarah and Scarlett ensured the title was Longcliffe’s as 1 point was enough but Julie and Mel also won their games with Joanne narrowly losing her game to ensure we maintained our 100% record.

A magnificent achievement by the scratch team squad who will now go
on to represent Longcliffe GC at the EG Club Championship.

A fitting farewell/bon voyage to Gabbi who goes to America next Tuesday to take up her golf scholarship and a presentation was made last night to wish her luck.

Many thanks to all the scratch team squad who have been magnificent all season.
