Today was our pennywort removal and INNS (invasive non native species) event with Amy Cipriano and Project River Soar - community events

We had 18 of our members turn up to learn from Amy and help tackle the pennywort issue on our waterways. It’s hard work but always such a laugh.

Join us on our next one or look out for regular events on the Project River Soar group

🌿 PENNYWORT? NOT ON OUR WATCH! 🚣‍♀️

Tomorrow we’re getting stuck into some serious w**d-whacking as local INNS expert Amy Cipriano comes along to show us how to tackle pennywort and other invasive non-native species in our waterways.

We’ve got some brave souls heading out in the Bell Boats… 🚣‍♂️💦
…but we need some land volunteers too! 🏃‍♀️🌿

Come along, get your hands dirty, learn a thing or two, help protect our river and have a laugh while you’re at it.

No fancy skills required — just bring yourself, some enthusiasm and clothes you don’t mind getting muddy! 😂

🌱 Come and make a difference — one w**d at a time!

*ANDY OUGHTON – FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR TOMORROW*

A reminder to all members that *Andy Oughton’s funeral will take place tomorrow, Friday 4th September at 13:00 at Countesthorpe Crematorium* , with the wake afterwards at Countesthorpe Village Hall.

As part of Andy’s farewell, paddlers have been invited to form a *Guard of Honour with paddles* as the funeral procession arrives. *If you are attending, please bring a paddle with you.*

*CAR SHARING FROM WATERSIDE*
We have been asked to minimise the number of cars at the crematorium, so any club members attending are very welcome &* encouraged to *meet at Waterside Canoe Club from 11:40* to arrange car sharing.
*We need to be wheels turning from the club by 11:50 at the absolute latest* to allow enough time to travel, park and be in position for the Guard of Honour.

*If you are travelling directly and not car sharing, you MUST be at the crematorium, parked and ready with your paddle no later than 12:40.*

This is important so that the Guard of Honour can be organised and in position before Andy’s funeral procession arrives.

If you are attending, Andy’s family have also asked that you complete the attendance form so they can plan numbers and make sure there is enough flapjack for everyone!

For anyone unable to attend, or who would simply like to leave a few words or a memory of Andy, his online condolence book can be found here:

https://alovingtribute.com/condolence-message-portal/

It would be wonderful to see Waterside well represented as we come together with the wider paddling community to give Andy a fitting farewell.

Invite guests to share their condolence messages through our message portal, and we’ll compile them into a beautiful keepsake book for you.

OUT & ABOUT TOMORROW – HOLME PIERREPONT
Tomorrow evening we’re heading over to Holme Pierrepont Canoe Club to join them for their club session, with two different options available for Waterside members.
You can join our usual planned flatwater session, or, if you fancy something a little different, have a go on the whitewater course.
Boats and kit can be provided for members taking part in either option, so please don’t let not having the right equipment put you off.

FLATWATER SESSION
Our normal Out & About flatwater session will meet from 18:30.
Simply sign up to the session through MyClubhouse as usual and we’ll identify those who are joining the flatwater group.
Sign up here:
https://watersidecc.myclubhouse.co.uk/Events/Calendar/View?id=853

WHITEWATER OPTION
For those who would like to have a go on the whitewater course, we need you to be able to arrive at Holme Pierrepont for 18:00.
This is because we are governed by the whitewater course closing time of 19:30, so we need to make the most of the available session time.
There is an additional £8 supplement for the whitewater option. This is paid through Waterside Canoe Club, and the club will then pay Holme Pierrepont Canoe Club on your behalf.
Whitewater supplement payment:
https://buy.stripe.com/5kQ6oHg4i9ZZaTYaiQcjS2k
You will also need to complete the required consent form before taking part:
Consent form:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScGWd7LSspPLdpAwuckT1UrIVDYdToC7pSwU_DGFolqxbaaFg/viewform

SO, IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO THE WHITEWATER SESSION
Please make sure you:
1. Sign up to the Out & About session through MyClubhouse as usual.
2. Are able to arrive at Holme Pierrepont for 18:00.
3. Complete the Google consent form.
4. Pay the £8 whitewater supplement.
5. Message Matt on 07783 603648 to confirm that you have signed up, completed the form and paid.
Matt will then make sure everyone taking part in the whitewater option is kept informed of the arrangements ahead of the session.

NEVER TRIED WHITEWATER BEFORE?
Don’t automatically assume this one isn’t for you.
If you’ve been curious about having a go, this is a great opportunity to try something different while we’re visiting Holme Pierrepont, with club members around you and boats and kit available.
Equally, if whitewater isn’t your thing, that’s absolutely fine. Our normal flatwater session is still going ahead from 18:30, so there really is something for everyone.
