Eat the Rainbow!

Fruits and Vegetables come in all shapes sizes and most importantly colours. It can be really easy to stick to a "safe bet" and go for the same 3-5 choices every time.
If you always stick to the same choices then you may be creating a nutrient deficiency without even realising. Something as simple as changing from a Granny Smith to a Pink Lady will ensure a slightly different nutrient profile is being achieved. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous aim for fruits and vegetables that are in season and locally sourced to ensure you are really getting the most from your food choices.

An interesting conversation at the end of BJJ had the group talking about sleep and the drastic effect it has on our health.

Quite literally sleep is one of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal to optimise our body, yet over 30% of us are sleep deprived. One crazy fact I find always gets the point across is that every year on average we see a 24% spike in visits to hospitals for heart attacks due to day light savings… literally losing one hour of sleep can have a massive effect on our body. Now obviously other factors are at hand in that statistic but it definitely gets the point across.

Your sleep plays a massive factor in regulating hormones, reducing inflammation, producing T cells (an essential part of our immune system), regulates your mood and even helps burn fat to a certain level.

Aim for 7 to 8 hours, build a sleep routine and switch those electronics off.

P.S the cutie in the picture is the reason I’m sleep deprived.

Nutrition coaching isn’t just writing meal plans for people to mindlessly follow, in fact meal planning is the last thing I would recommend for my clients.

Coaching being the key word, I aim to develop peoples knowledge base on which foods will make them feel and look healthier. I focus on working with my clients to build great habits with regards to eating. The key aim: making good choices consistently in a delicious and sustainable way.

Counting calories sucks. Learn to have fun and enjoy your food whilst using it to build a healthier happier you.
