Lots of interesting projects keeping the team busy this week.

⛵ A Rustler 36 Ocean set featuring a Hydranet 3 reef fully battened mainsail, a Pro Warp Drive tri-radial genoa, and a furling removable J3 with a Karver halyard lock.

⛵ A fully battened mainsail for a Viking 33.

⛵ A new Harken Unit 1 MK4 furler and furling J3 for a Rival 34 preparing for a transatlantic crossing.

It’s great to be busy, working alongside such a skilled team, and helping customers prepare their boats for everything from coastal cruising to ocean passages.

What a week at Sail Shape!

It’s been another busy one, with three major Raymarine installations completed, an outdoor retractable awning fitted, building Fowey River and Troy sails, plus a number of rigging inspections.

Rob, Chris, Emelie, and Bob who continue to do a fantastic job supporting Alan keeping up with what seems like a relentless stream of orders. Their hard work, skill and dedication are what keep everything moving forward and to the highest of standards.

Another fantastic week here at Sail Shape, with plenty of sails and covers heading out the door.

Take a look at what we’ve been working on this week.

We’ve just completed a custom tonneau cover, bimini, and full all-over cover for a stunning 7m tender that’s soon to be shipped to the USA. The tender was commissioned for a private lake owned by a very wealthy gentleman, who will use this beautiful launch for leisurely trips around his own lake.

Next week is shaping up to be another busy one, with 7 sails scheduled for production — so keep an eye on the page to follow our progress and see what’s coming out of the workshop.

The Jester challenge

Getting small short-handed yachts ready for serious trans-ocean sailing is never a casual exercise. Every system decision matters when you’re planning for real mid-Atlantic conditions and the possibility of sustained 60–70 knot winds.

For offshore work like this, the priorities are simple:

* A dependable rig
* A versatile sail plan
* Proper cockpit protection
* Systems that reduce exposure on deck

This beautiful Sparkman & Stephens 30 came to Sail Shape for a complete sail plan and rigging overhaul designed specifically for safe offshore passagemaking.

The upgrade package included:

* Storm jib setup with internal tie rod, inner forestay, and running backstay
* Storm-grade sprayhood and backdrop designed to take green water waves and knock down
* New mid-boom mainsheet track system
* All three reefs, mainsail halyard, kicker, and traveller led back to the cockpit

The result is a seriously capable offshore system that allows the skipper to remain protected inside the cockpit in conditions up to around 40 knots, before deploying the storm jib and stabilising the rig using the new inner forestay and running backstay configuration.

Most importantly, all 3 reefs of the mainsail can now be reefed in under 30 seconds from the safety of the sprayhood — a massive advantage when conditions deteriorate fast offshore.

This is exactly the kind of practical engineering and deck layout thinking that turns a capable yacht into a confident offshore passage-maker.
