Sowenna's first shark trip of the 2026 season with Chris and family, joined by Mark.

Early in the season so we weren't sure what to expect but we managed to find a couple of nice early visitors which was great.

Plenty of bait fish on the grounds all day long with mainly mackerel coming aboard, along with whiting and gurnards.

Two sharks to the boat and another hanging around as we left. 2026 is underway and we look forward to getting more of you guys out there on the sharks.

Amazing weather, excellent company, great banter, and a nice bit of variety on the reefs with a mixed crew yesterday. This weather can stay please.

Josh and Alex joined our regular crew of Belgians and the Welsh brothers in search of a comber for their species hunt.

The combers came aboard in quick order. One for each of them on our first stop. Bait fishing was good. Plenty of it around but the fishing was really tough in the morning with wind over tide leaving little to no drift.

The lads worked hard all day and turned it around when the tide eased and turned which gave us a better drift. Some decent pollack, a ling, the obligatory pouts and cuckoos and then Bryn hooks into a belter of a Couchs bream. Great scrap, beautiful colours, recovered in the aerated tank and back she went with the descender.

Some individual spaces Wednesday, Thursday this week if you fancy jumping aboard.

Some decent fishing for the lads today. A good fun day on the lures with a few eels and bits and pieces on the baits at anchor. The sun even put in an appearance.

Nice to be back out to sea in the sunshine with the Puffin Pirates.

Lure fishing tough going in the morning, with the exception of Jack's ling on the light lure rod. Cracker.

The action came in the afternoon on the baits with huge numbers of small red bream on the ground and the odd better red and black mixed in.

Thanks again lads.

We are gearing up for the season now. Spaces available for individuals throughout the next new weeks, before it gets really busy. Please get in touch if you fancy a trip out.

'Bright light in sky'

After weeks and weeks of relentless wind and rain this winter, the sun finally shone this morning. A welcome drop of vitamin D.

The Trinity House Vessel 'Galatea' took advantage of a small weather window and moved into the bay to undertake re-positioning of our South Cardinal marker the 'Ranneys Bouy'

The 'Ranneys Bouy' is a cardinal marker which marks safe passage to it's south and keeps vessels clear of the Ranneys reef.

During recent storms, the bouy (several tons of floating steel work) was dragged inshore by approx 1/4 mile and was no longer doing it's job.

Thanks to Trinity House and Galatea and crew for their work to help keep us on safe passage.
