New brushes fitted to our toro 1000’s ready for action tomorrow. Verticutters have been set to -1mm to allow a verticut, cut and roll most days next week to refine the surface working towards club champs next weekend. Greens will be dropped from 4mm to 3.5mm. A lot of cutting with rain overnight to get the best possible presentation.

Good morning,

Been a very busy couple weeks on the course. Currently the 2nd tee irrigation is having work done to find a blockage in the pipes which is reducing flow and pressure at the heads. All the sprinklers for the 2nd tee have been dug up with hopefully a solution possibly today to rectify the problem.

The front left sprinkler on the 7th green had a reducer couple split causing significant damage to the turf and make the area very wet. The reducing coupler has been replaced and the area with damaged turf has been removed. Topsoil been added to reshape the the area to allow water to run away from the area. It is currently roped off as it has been seeded and fertilised. This area will be roped off until germination of the grass repairs the area.

You will know notice we have 2 bands of semi rough. Over the next few weeks you will also see the 2inch rough being reduced in areas as it was taking 4 days to cut the rough meaning it only got cut once a week which isn’t ideal with the current amount of rain and warm temperatures we’re experiencing.

This process should hopefully take 2 days once the uncut rough has grown and becomes more established. This will allow us to cut the rough 2 times a week which will help reduce clippings sat on the top.

The bunkers are still ongoing with topping up sand levels. We’re doing a lot of work on repairing worm areas getting ready for the club championships.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Apologies for being quiet this week. Tough task for the team keeping on too of growth with reduced staff.

Sand has arrived to start topping bunker levels up. The fairway bunkers on the 5th have been weeded and just need the piles of weeds to be removed then we can add sand to sufficient levels to reinstate the bunkers.

The green staff will be carrying out greens maintenance with our monthly ninja tining. We will be going down 1” with a 3mm tine hitting the organic matter. We will be verticutting greens going down -4mm to remove organic matter and get more sand in to the top of the profile making it firmer and less tolerant to disease. Once the process has been done we will be topdressing greens to reduce organic matter levels in the top 50mm of the profile and smooth the surface.

We will be taking soil samples of the greens to compare data from the 1st samples we took at the start of the season.

We have planned new irrigation pipes to be installed for the 2nd black, white and gold tee. This is due to poor pressure and the heads being in the wrong place.
We will be upgrade the size of the valve which will increase the flow of water to the heads giving us better coverage of the tee.

Enjoy your Sunday evening and hopefully England bring it home.

The green staff have done a great job with presentation of the course ready for the weekend.

Fairways have been cross cut which helps keep the plant standing up and preventing lateral growth. Gives a great appearance to.

The tees will now be hand cut to improve turf quality and appearance.

Tees will be getting a liquid feed and iron application in the morning to boost the tees and green them up.

Enjoy the weekend.

Busy week for the greenkeepers keeping on too of growth as we had 1 inch of rain from Sunday night in to Monday with rain each day this week. Main focus this week is to focus on presentation. Greens will be double verticut in the morning due to a load of poa seed heads from recent rain.

Another good week by the team carrying out greens maintenance. The ninja tining was very successful leaving a clean finish with no affect on ball roll. We will be carrying out a double verticut to the greens on Monday going a little deeper to remove poa seed heads and hit the organic matter area of the profile.

The greens had a wetting agent and seaweed application this morning allowing water to push through the surface holes getting the product where we want it with the forecast due to be high 20’s by the end of next week.

The greens will be topdressed with 10tonne of topdressing to fill the verticut lines. They will be rolled and watered in creating a smoother and firmer surface.

Over the coming weeks we will be vertidraining the greens and tees with 10mm pencil tines going down as close as we can get to 10inches. This allows gas exchange in the soil and help the roots to get as deep as possible.

Hoping to have the 18th greenside left bunker and the 2 fairway bunkers on the 5th to be in play next week.

Hope you all enjoy the course this weekend.

Busy day today cutting fairways, rough, semi, bunkers and greens surrounds. Got some damaged areas solid tined down to 1inch creating a seed bed which the seed will sit in mixed with topsoil to help the seed germinate and recover the areas.

We will be ninja tining greens which takes out a 1mm core in the top 2inches removing organic matter. This process will be over 3 days targeting 6 greens a day. We will be topdressing greens next Monday to help get more sand in to the organic matter layer which will firm the surface and dilute the organic matter.

The Chipping green bunker has been renovated removing the weeds and make the base a little deeper, liner added then sand added. This will be completed tomorrow allowing all golfers to have a designated area to practice bunker shots.

Another beautiful morning at RedLibbets GC. Today we finished double verticutting greens and went on to bunker renovation. We have fairway bunkers on 14 and 16 to complete and that will be them completed.

The selective herbicide application will be completed today with the weeds already showing signs of them shrivelling up.

No cutting has been done this week apart from greens so looking forward to get the course ready for this weekends board competition.

Another perfect opportunity with little golf this morning to start double verticutting greens again at -1mm. Have 8 greens left to finish tomorrow.

We have a contractor in today and tomorrow spraying herbicide on the whole course which kills weeds such as clover, daisies, buttercups, broad leaf weeds so there will be no cutting on the course for the next couple days.

Have made a start on bunker maintenance which works well with not being able to cut as we can improve presentation of the bunkers. Once this process has been done we will be spraying a plant growth regulator around all bunkers to slow the growth down and keep presentation.

The greens are doing really well and going strength to strength. Pictures 2 and 3 you can see the Poa Annua grass we are controlling has been knocked back which the PGR application 1.5 weeks ago. This will allow finer grasses to dominate the poa and give a better surface.

There is very little poa seed heads on the greens which mechanical and cultural practices working really well. We will be applying 10 tonne of topdressing to the greens next Monday which helps smooth the surface and help with our goals of reducing organic matter in the top 50mm of the profile.

Glorious morning out hand mowing the greens. The poa seed heads are now dieing back allow the finer grasses to flourish. We will be assessing the calendar over the next couple days to go with a a verticut to remove more seed heads from the canopy and apply another light topdress.

We are fine tuning all ares of maintenance to the green to promote the smoothest surface for the golfers. Topdressing will play a key role in remove organic matter (thatch) from the top 30mm by diluting it with sand and mechanical aeration.

We are getting closer to our goal for the greens week by week which is great to see.

Hope you’re all enjoying this glorious weather on our beautiful golf course.
