Long Melford Cricket Club Long Melford Cricket Club is a family friendly and well-run club situated on the Suffolk/ Essex border in a picturesque village setting.

Long Melford Cricket Club was founded in 1855 and reformed in 1954 is a family friendly and well-run club situated on the Suffolk/ Essex border in a picturesque village setting. The club is ECB Clubmark accredited and fields four senior teams, a number of youth and Kwik-Cricket teams and actively encourages younger members to training sessions. Playing league cricket in the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties League gives players the chance to engage in fully competitive encounters. For those who like their cricket a little less competitive but still occasionally challenging, the Club fields two teams on Sundays in the Hunts County Bats Cricket League, with the 2nd XI devoted to providing older juniors with an opportunity to progress further by developing their skills and gaining experience in a senior environment. The ground is always well maintained and usually hosts one or two representative matches during the season (a measure of the regard in which the ground is held) and benefits from brand new, 3-lane artificial practice nets. Adult coaching and practice nets are held every Wednesday evening during the season from 6.00pm onwards and junior coaching (we have 6 qualified stage 1 coaches and 1 qualified stage 2 coach) is held on Thursday evenings from 6.00pm till 7.30pm. Boys, girls and parents are all welcome. The club also run various social events all year round including Quiz Nights, Race Nights and BBQ's. The pavilion has its own well stocked bar and is also available for private hire.

Results for the final time in 2026 ‼️

Saturdays ended in winning ways with both teams securing the W 🌟

The 1s chased Great Bromley's 248 to secure the win on the last day, however it wasn't enough to confirm their safety in Division 3 😔

A different story for the 2s, as they secured a mid table finish with their win over Coggeshall 3s in a very congested Division 8a. A maiden ton for James Bayley and a classy 91 from the Chairman made up the majority of the 235 run total which the home side couldn't chase 🔥

Sundays ended on a different note, on a damp day befitting of the final game of the season neither team could get the win over the line, with neither side having an awful lot to play for 🌧️

The 1s made the arduous journey to Melton where they set 174, which was chased fairly comfortably in the end, in a game which had a distinct 'end-of-term' vibe 🤓

Meanwhile the 2s finished a promising campaign at home Vs Battisford. Matt Hoadley finally got his century right at the end of the season, setting the travelling side 208. Unfortunately, the firepower of Battisford proved too much on the day! 🚀

MILESTONES EVERYWHERE! 🔥

Let's take a look at this week's results! 👀

Two wins on Saturday, as the 1s post a huge score, featuring twin hundreds from the top order 🚀 while the 2s ice their chase of 220 thanks to some classy innings 🌟

Sunday saw more milestones, the 1s failing to chase 251, despite the ever present opener carrying his bat🏏, while the 2s were involved in a last ball thriller over at Earl Stonham, unfortunately seeing the home side prevail victorious! 😩

Well done to everyone last week, one last push to the end of the season 💪

BANK HOLIDAY FUNDAY

Bank holiday Monday saw an interclub game played between Long Melford Rounders and Cricket teams! After a gentle reminder that it was a non contact sport, some great catches and some speedy running, the Rounders team took the victory in a very close, very funny game!
Both teams then took to the square to play super 8s cricket but unfortunately were rained off before a winner could be found!
A fantastic club day, thanks to those who supported with the BBQ and bar! Well played by all!
