I joined David Lloyd in Coventry on January 3rd 2019 (my 29th birthday), after a food filled Christmas and years eating and drinking all the worst things I thought it was time to get to the gym and get myself in shape. To start with I thought I would do the bodytrax machines and see where I was starting from and it wasn’t great reading, weighing in at 84kg, 24% body fat and the metabolism of a 45 year old, safe to say I wasn’t in good shape!
I decided to do lots of Blaze classes (HIIT Training) and cut down on calories. I did this for a month or so and felt I wasn’t really getting anywhere, so I thought ok, maybe I should cut some more calories and be in a calorie deficit, which I did to a point where I was barley eating anything through the day. Until one evening I went to do my usual Blaze with Amanda and quite literally felt ready to pass out and had to stop,
At this point I spoke to Amanda and arranged a nutrition session to see what I was doing wrong (which turned out to be a lot) and to try and get some guidance as I just was not getting anywhere with the tried and tested internet searches for how to lose weight! Amanda completed a full evaluation of my diet and gave me guidance on food, calorie intake and macro splits and I also decided to pick up some PT sessions to try and get some expert advice.
The best decision I have ever made – Amanda built my training plans and refreshed them to keep them interesting every 4 weeks, she gave me a food menu on portion control information to follow and from this point I finally started getting results. I spent the next 6 months moaning about pretty much everything, the Bulgarian split squats and deadlifts but every session I learnt something new, weather that was about the right form, the right food or the right attitude each session helped me to grow and without Amanda I would have given up with the gym for the 500th time in my life.
Now weighing 68kg with 12% body fat and the metabolism of a 16 year old I feel great and in great shape to look after my dog and my 3 month old little girl. It’s no exaggeration to say I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since I was actually 16.
