Do not underestimate the importance and power of writing things down. Put your ideas to paper, create a plan, write out your goals and objectives. There is definitely something about writing things down that helps make it concrete and bring it into fruition. If you don’t have a 🖊 and piece of 📝 , use your phone.

I love to use my notes section in my phone for note - taking when I don’t have a pen and paper ready. This afternoon I was scrolling through my notes and came across some rough notes I took when I was first starting out with BKH. This was back in 2015. I wrote down my rough objectives. Swipe left to see. Looking back through it just now, I smiled in disbelief. I couldn’t believe that I’ve been able to achieve them all, and by Allah’s grace so much more . Allah is indeed merciful and great.

Sometimes we get so caught up in worrying about the ‘how’ that we don’t take the leap. We are too scared to take action and claim it. Allah is the one who gave you those ideas you have; so trust Him enough to know that He can make it possible for you.

I never planned on becoming a teacher. I kind of just fell into it. My first job after leaving secondary school was as a Tutor. I taught Maths & English to GCSE & Primary School children on the weekends at a Tuition centre in Peckham. It didn’t pay a lot, but it paid for my occasional Clothing club shopping sprees. 😂 . Fast forward several years later, after starting a Law degree, I found myself yet again working as a SEN Teaching Assistant at a secondary school in South London. Again, I didn’t plan on doing it long term- I needed a job and was suitably experienced, so I took up the job. And so my path for teaching continued. After that I went on to teach at a College in East London, before moving over to Saudi Arabia to tech English to University students. All this while I hadn’t planned on going into teaching.

Looking back, I’m extremely grateful for the experience, because while I am no longer a teacher, I learnt sooo much from the experience. Through it Allah blessed me with many opportunities I may not have otherwise had. I learnt how to create content, how to teach people of varying abilities, how to differentiate, how to effectively present & deliver to an audience, how to create resources and so many other invaluable transferable skills. Alhamdulillah.

This is a reminder to myself and you to trust in Allah’s plan for you. You may find yourself presently in circumstances different to what you had planned, trust that the One who wrote the script of your life has a greater plan and knows better than you.

On the face of it, my book, Taking Action is a book designed to help you build a business by helping you manage your time and set effective goals ....and it is. But it is also much deeper than that. To me it represents belief in possibility. It’s about what can happen if you have belief in Allah and belief in you. It is about knowing that anything is possible with consistent steps and firm faith in Allah’s ability to see you through.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
People often ask me what inspired me to write Taking Action. It is this- if there’s anything that life has taugh me it’s that really anything can be achieved if you work towards it. If you make it your highest priority. If you make it non- negotiable. You will find time. You will keep going when times get hard. You will not loose hope because you know that Allah’s got you.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have learnt this as a mother of multiple young children juggling full time work and business with motherhood.
I’ve learnt this as a Black Hijabi Abaya -wearing Muslimah working in the corporate world.
I’ve learnt this as someone who was diagnosed with diabetes and fought her way to come out the other side.
I learnt this as a teenage mother determined to make it through getting her Bachelors degree and Masters degree despite those that doubted and said I’d never make it.

Believe me when I say, there is absolutely nothing impossible for you to achieve if you believe and take action.

We are half way through 2019 🙆🏾‍♀️How are the goals you set at the beginning of the year coming along?
If you haven’t been able to dedicate time to working on your goals because you feel like you just don’t have time in your day to work on it, here’s a tip: instead of telling yourself you don’t have time; try challenging yourself and ask yourself- how can I find time? The difference between saying to yourself ‘I don’t have time” and “how do I find time” is this: the first one closes down your mind. As soon as you say you don’t have time, your brain accepts it as true and you won’t have time. The second question expands your mind. Your brain will begin to explore how you can find time. You may suddenly realise that actually you can squeeze in an hour before you go to bed at night; or even half an hour during your lunch break at work, etc. Whatever it is. If not having enough time is slowing your progress towards your goal, it’s probably time you rethink that before the next 6 months roll in and we hit 2020, right?

Truly, all thanks and praise belong to Allah- Lord of all mankind and all that exists. Praise be to Him. He who is always so merciful and kind...even when we are undeserving.

Last week Monday I was invited back onto Islam Chanel to talk about how our thoughts shape our reality. I’d had a busy couple of days prior to the day of the show and so had little time time to prepare as I’d have liked. On the day I was nervous as to how I’d perform. During the show I silently reminded myself to talk slowly and not to stutter. And the night before it aired I couldn’t sleep properly for fear of how it would all turn out. When it went live I watched it with daughter. After watching it, she said “mummy you sound like such a professional- like you do TV interviews all the time”. I smiled, gave her a hug and told her how nervous I’d been the whole time. She replied “mummy, you don’t need to worry, I knew you would be amazing” 💛

It’s like I said on the show- not every thought we think is true. .

Shoutout to my amazing friends and family who watched it live and messaged me with words of support and encouragement. Love you all. 💕

Dreaming, planning & strategising are good. They are essential to achieving a vision. However, don’t spend too much time thinking and planning without TAKING ACTION. It is the action that brings about the change. It is the action that brings the ideas into life. It is the action that enables you to live your dream. Remember this as you go about your day- aim to spend 5-10 percent of your time planning, and spend the rest of the time doing. Then watch how things slowly begin to change, bi’ithnillah. 💪🏾
