Tottenham's management has begun taking steps to limit De Zerbi's influence over transfers.
The club's board is unhappy with how the transfer window has been handled, particularly the deals for Tonali and Van Hecke.
Tottenham paid £100 million for Tonali and £52 million for Van Hecke, and the board believes these figures are excessive.
Regarding Van Hecke, Tottenham were interested in the player before De Zerbi's arrival, meaning the deal itself isn't out of the question. However, the club feels that paying £52 million for a defender who had only one year left on his contract with Brighton is too high.
Therefore, Tottenham's management is considering appointing a new sporting director with greater influence in transfer decisions, thus reducing De Zerbi's control over transfer market decisions.
