In these days of crisis and cutbacks, preventive health care is becoming increasingly important. However, the current health care system has thus far proven incapable of reversing the increase in chronic diseases and mental diseases.
There is a lack of ‘health awareness’, both among the ill and among doctors and policy makers. Fundamental knowledge on ‘living and health’ is lacking. The obvious step is therefore to start teaching children in primary schools also involve the parents in the education and show them how take it into practice.
Health education and training centres are needed to foster ‘health awareness’. Starting with the trainee students and young doctors in particular would also benefit from practical health demonstrations.
We are talking about major savings for the National Health System and more funds to our medical research.
Personal Trainers are very much involved and we also carry a great deal of responsibility when it comes to health awareness'.
Just notice what happend the past ten years and realise our profession has increasead rapidly along with the enormous development in the health&fitness industry.
Let's also be honest and mention 'health' and 'fitness' are not always compatible, after all it is a business that strives for profits which is understandable.
Never the less we should be aware of some products out there, they can be efficient for example when it comes to fat burning and can give you a visible results but has very little to do with 'health awareness '.
What is our clients goals and expectations? Is it possible to guide our clients into a healthy lifestyle and still help them to get fit and are supplements necessary?
The answer is of course YES we can and NO the supplements are not necessary in the long run! It takes a different approach and also a different mindset and changing their lifestyle. A new lifestyle is not an eight weeks fat burning diet, it is not unusual that people gain even more weight than they had before after going back to their usual diets and routines. We need to show our clients a more consistent and healthy lifestyle, a balance that allow us to 'enjoy life' but at the same time increase our health. What happened to getting fit then? If our client eats healthy, follows our advise and programme in a good way .. well, I would say I don't see they have a choice then getting fit because of the normal response from our body!
My point here is we should be aware of the unique position we been given as Personal Trainers and how we actually can contribute to increase life quality to a great deal of people in our society by promoting 'health awareness'.
