congressional candidate Justin Pearson has sharpened his criticism of the AI industry's expansion, arguing that data centers are systematically located in communities that lack the resources to oppose them. "Data centers are never at Mar-a-Lago or in the CEO's neighborhoods," Pearson told CNN. "They're always in working class communities". The candidate, who represents a district that includes parts of Memphis, said his constituents have seen "no benefit" from the proliferation of AI data centers while bearing the brunt of their environmental and health impacts. Pearson has called for a moratorium on new data centers and has made the issue a central theme of his congressional campaign.

At the heart of the dispute is a 37‑second segment of the emergency call that Wells’ friends made to a towing company as their boat began to sink. After the audio surfaced online, multiple audio engineers from around the world—most notably Texas-based engineer Jeanetta “Netta” Brantley—spent hours enhancing the clip using traditional editing techniques. Brantley and other professionals have stated that the background voices reveal phrases that have not been addressed by investigators, suggesting Wells may have been in distress on the boat. Brantley has adamantly denied claims that the audio was fabricated or created with AI, stating she used only conventional digital audio workstations.

A war of words between media mogul DJ Vlad and rapper-turned-podcaster N.O.R.E. has escalated into a full-blown industry feud, with Vlad accusing the "Drink Champs" host of coercion and exploitation, and now facing significant pushback from past guests who are rallying to the show's defense. Vlad claimed he was pressured into drinking during his 2022 appearance and criticized the show for featuring guests struggling with addiction. However, past guests—including DJ Paul, Bubba Spar###, Turk, Rashad Bilal, and Doggie Diamonds—have publicly contradicted Vlad's characterization, sharing their own positive experiences on the show.

Senatobia Police Chief Harold "Hal" Vanderford has been fired after an investigation by Mississippi Today, Verite News and The New York Times uncovered private text messages in which he repeatedly used racist slurs against Black people. The Senatobia Board of Aldermen unanimously terminated Vanderford on September 1, rejecting his resignation submitted earlier that day. The investigation reviewed 10 text conversations from July 2025 through April 2026 in which Vanderford allegedly used a racist slur more than a dozen times; five acquaintances confirmed the phone number belonged to Vanderford. The firing comes as the Senatobia Police Department remains under scrutiny over the June 14 shooting death of 1-year-old Kohen Wiley, who was killed when an officer fired into a vehicle during a Walmart shoplifting response. Vanderford was chief at the time but was not the officer who fired the shots. Lt. Angelica Maze has been selected to lead the department until a permanent replacement is appointed.

James Fishback, a former Republican gubernatorial candidate, was escorted out of the Miami-Dade County Commission chambers on Tuesday after publicly criticizing the county's expanded investment in Israeli bonds—a move that had been approved moments earlier without public discussion. Fishback approached the microphone during the public comment period and asked commissioners: "Do you serve the people of South Miami or of Jerusalem?" As he spoke, plain-clothed deputies approached the lectern and began escorting him out of the chambers while he continued, saying, "We need a country that puts America first." The commission had just approved a new policy raising the cap on Israel bonds from 3% to 5% of Miami-Dade's $8 billion portfolio. Critics of the change were not allowed to speak on the item before the full commission, prompting outrage from multiple speakers. Jared Simon, who helped lead the campaign against the expanded investment rules, told the Miami Herald that his group was "not aligned with Fishback."

Podcaster Joe Rogan has criticized President Donald Trump's decision to rename Lake Ontario to “Lake America,” suggesting the move is a deliberate attempt to divert public attention from the ongoing and unpopular war in Iran.

During a recent episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan argued the name change is a distraction from “the fact that we're in a war that we can't win in Iran”. He questioned the purpose of the change, adding, “It doesn't make any sense. Like, who cares if it's Lake Ontario? It's a good name. We've had that name forever”. Rogan's remarks come as public support for the conflict has waned, with a recent poll showing 68 percent of Americans disapprove of Trump's handling of the Iran war.

Far-right activist Laura Loomer has sparked widespread condemnation after publishing a post on X that targeted five prominent Black women with racist and misogynistic language. The post, which named Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, U.S. Representatives Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley, former Representative Cori Bush, and Florida state Representative Angie Nixon, described them as "ghetto, entitled, race-obsessed, destructive Black BI***ES who are completely unfit for the power they hold." Critics have condemned the remarks as dehumanizing and part of a broader pattern of attacks on Black female elected officials. Loomer, who has a history of inflammatory rhetoric and was previously banned from multiple social media platforms for hate speech, has not apologized for her comments. The Congressional Black Caucus has not yet issued a formal statement, but individual members have expressed outrage on social media.
