Mentorship for fitness professionals 🦋

EXERCISE & NUTRITION are the cornerstone to any fitness programme, but the path YOU choose to reach your goals is individual to YOU. I do not believe in a ‘one size fits all’ solution to health and fitness. Each individual needs to experiment with what works best for them. Following an initial consultation, I work closely together with each client to find the UNIQUE FITNESS PLAN that works for him or her. In order to design an effective programme, I exploit the foundations of ‘correct’ exercise & nutrition, whilst taking into account the client as an individual. The first step is to look at current nutritional habits and fitness levels, but there are also many other factors to consider:
* unique physical ‘make up’
* lifestyle & time commitments
* medical history & past injuries
* stress levels
* coping strategies
* sleep patterns…

…& lastly likes & dislikes: those factors that will MOTIVATE rather than ALIENATE...
...so why not give me a call & give it a go!

People often assume yoga and Pilates are basically the same thing. They are not, though they are easy to confuse.

Both are low-impact, both work on the mind-body connection, and both value breath and control, so the overlap is real. But the emphasis is different. Yoga leans towards flexibility, held postures and breath, with roots in a much older spiritual practice. Pilates was built around core strength, spinal articulation and controlled, precise movement, often with resistance.

Neither is better. They do different jobs, and plenty of people benefit from both. But if your goal is strength, control and how your body moves day to day, that is Pilates territory.🦋

Today is World Mental Health Day, so here is something I see constantly but rarely say out loud.

Movement is not a cure for anything, and I would never pretend it is. But for a lot of the women I work with, the session is where their head quietens down. Partly it is the physiology, exercise genuinely affects mood and stress at a chemical level. Partly it is having one hour where the only thing you have to think about is your own body. And partly it is the slow, steady proof that you can do hard things, which has a way of spilling over into the rest of life.

As a mental health first aider as well as a coach, I am careful not to overclaim. If you are struggling, movement sits alongside proper support, it does not replace it. But if today is a day for small helpful things, a walk, a stretch, a bit of strength work all count. Start there.🦋

Not every session starts with movement. Some start with looking.
Before loading anything or adding a single exercise, I want to see how someone actually sits, stands and holds themselves. Where one side is doing more than the other. Where an old injury has quietly changed how everything else moves. You cannot fix what you have not properly looked at.
This is the part that gets skipped in a busy class, and it is often where the real answers are. Especially for anyone carrying pain, stiffness, or a body that has started to feel unfamiliar. We start by understanding it, then we work.🦋

There is no good time to start. That is worth knowing, because most people are waiting for one.

When work calms down. After the holidays. Once the kids are back at school. When they feel a bit fitter first. The trouble is the quiet, ready moment rarely arrives, and the waiting becomes its own habit. The people who get going are not the ones who found the perfect time. They are the ones who started in an imperfect one.

If you have been waiting for the right moment, this is your reminder that it does not really exist. You just begin.🦋

You do not need to lift heavy to get results. Strength comes from progressive load, asking a little more over time, and that can start with bodyweight or the lightest weights. Start where you are, add a little as you go.🦋

A reminder to breathe properly today.
Most of us breathe shallowly without noticing, especially when we are busy or stressed. A few slow breaths, a longer exhale than inhale, genuinely settles the nervous system. It costs nothing and takes a minute.
Consider this your minute.🦋

Women often avoid weights to protect their joints. It is backwards. Joints are worn by lack of load, not load. Strong muscle around a joint means more support. Even with arthritis, appropriate strength work tends to reduce pain, not cause it.🦋

The hardest rep is the one where you decide to come at all.
Most people spend far longer thinking about starting than the starting actually takes. Weeks, sometimes months, of meaning to, of telling themselves they will when things calm down or when they feel a bit fitter first. The getting fitter is the thing the sessions are for. You do not need to arrive ready.
If you have been circling the idea for a while, this is your reminder that the thinking is the hard part, and you have already done most of it.🦋
