Be more like The Shard. šļø
The tallest building in London is actually a brilliant way to understand mental health and resilience.
Let me explain.
The foundations underneath The Shard represent your beliefs:
ā¢ā Your general beliefs about life
ā¢ā Your self-esteem and the beliefs you hold about yourself
And the building above the ground?
That represents your thinking.
So if the foundations arenāt strong, the building becomes wobbly.
Cue:
ā Negative thinking.
ā Overthinking.
ā Perfectionism.
ā Catastrophic thinking.
ā Overwhelm.
And over time, this thinking can create some pretty horrible symptoms from low mood, anxiety and panic to stress, phobias and dependencies.
Because whilst the symptoms show up above groundā¦the root cause is often underneath.
Now, does that mean strong people never wobble?
Of course not.
Even The Shard moves in strong winds.
But it wobbles far less because of the strength of the foundations holding it steady.
And humans are exactly the same.
The stronger the foundations:
ā
The more resilient you become
ā
The faster you bounce back
ā
The calmer you stay during adversity
ā
The better you handle uncertainty and pressure
Thatās mental fitness.
So during Mental Health Awareness Month, donāt just focus on the symptoms.
Focus on the foundations š
